    Hello,

    I learned music theory by playing the Saxophone and analyzing songs in the Jazz, Funk and R&B genres. I also studied the way some of the greatest sax players improvised. That has caused me to lean towards a more Jazzy style when I compose music which does not fit with the kind of music I want to be making. Electronic music uses very simple music theory and using my style sounds a bit off. So I was wondering, is there a style of electronic music that would work with a funky/jazzy sound ?

    Thanks.

    @Misterguywick , @scott
    I worded that wrong. I meant that a lot of electronic music like electro house, progressive house or future bass use simpler chords and chord progressions compared to jazz or funk. Sorry if I offended anybody

    When I played alto I tried to learn from Charlie Parker and Maceo Parker. When I changed to tenor I listened to Coltaine most and some modern players.

    I just don't enjoy it, it feels like I'm stepping out of my comfort zone.

  10. Electronic music (esp. its dance species) and every other popular style don't have the enough potentiality to be targets for applying the complicated idioms into them in the way today's producers use electronic instruments.

    If you insist to apply those idioms to those styles and genres, the final product would be anything other than easy-listening pop, unless you want to produce unpopular music.

    I was thinking of implementing some jazz/funk elements to popular music styles and not going full on jazz player. I just don't know which type of electronic music would be the most suitable for that.I found out that Japanese pop, rock and edm producers use jazz elements in their tracks but that kind of music sounds way too childish, I think.

    Listen to some classical music, like Thievery Corporation, Lemon Jelly and Air. The world also needs some more jazz jungle. and less genres.

  20. It won't suit your needs too. They made that genre to state their original intentions of making sth special but were nothing more than show-offs.
