    (third party, so we can give it a try) which one would it be?

    my choice: DDMF MagicDeathEye. sounds good on everything, except vocals - haven't tested it

    i like it too...but someone with good ears and knowledge meant it pushes sound into back

    softubes FET comes to mind but i guess i need something more allround tool like..
    Vertigo VSC-2 is a VCA isnt it...is it like an ssl comp with more features..?

    glue comp is an ssl...so its a vca..am i wrong ?

    Both can be used to achieve ANY sound that can be achieved with other compressors.
    Everything else I have only to get faster to my desired goal.

    One more that thinks Cytomics The Glue is one of the most essential compressors. :wink: Best used on busses, and compressing only a few dBs.

    I also tend to praise Waves Renaissance Compressor a lot for clean compressing all kinds of tracks. Mind you, I don't really like Waves plugins. lol

    On the other hand, I could make do with only Reaper's stock plugins, too. It really depends on your skills a lot.

    So what really is the difference between all these, from a beginner's point of view? Don't they basically all do the same?

    Edit: Or rather, what would be the strong points of each of those - I know some of the tube or vintage ones "color" the sound in a special way.

    but with this : bx_console SSL 4000 E (which has a compressor built in ), and nobody picked it, i think i won here. try to mix music with only compressor.
