  9. It costs $80 for a lifetime license. The free version was canned in 2017.

yeah the free has been discontinued and still works better than the Explorer. Only because the free it is no longer improved doesnt mean than it suddenly stops working.

  11. No, but support stops working if it suddenly doesn't.

I doubt that this will happen in the next years, how old is Cubase 5 ? ... it still works on Windows 10.

    Yes!
Add IrfanView for image-related stuff and Agent Ransack or File Locator Lite (https://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/) for a convenient full-text search that not only shows matching files but also the line that matched.
Build your own HDD index using dir /b /s <hdd letter>:\ >hdd-name.txt and search the index files using Agent Ransack or File Locator. Handy to find files on different HDDs with human chaotic file structure :winker:

I often use Explorer++. It is portable, no fuss Explorer replacement. Very configurable, and has a very nice search function, faster than Explorer's even with indexing on. It's got everything you need and then some. You can replace Explorer completely with it, and I recommend that. I often wonder why Microsoft even bothered making a file browser. It got progressively worse. Unusable, convoluted POS.

I can also wholeheartedly recommend NirSoft tools. Portable, no fuss tools for everything. Some of his tools are pretty unique... like all the various password recovery tools... I always carry these, Explorer++, and MyDefrag [for HDDs] with me whenever doing computer support.

TotalCommander. Been using it since 2000 I think. Best file manager (since I know it so well).

I wish there was a Mac equivalent to it which is halfway as powerful.
Crax, Commander One Pro, Double Commander ... they look good but they still don't deliver in 2019.
I love all those plugins. Like the DiskInternals HDD image mounter, innkx or the ISO reader.
Or the EXIF plugin for photography die-hards (ever wanted to sort your photo collection by focal length or shutter speed?).
Or the AnyTag/AudioInfo plugin supporting listing and search for tags in audio files.
Or the capability to handle huge files without stalling or crashing.
And the many more incredible plugins on totalcmd.net
