Personally, I would much rather have seen IK Multimedia spend their time and money developing MODO Guitar than MODO drums, a top-quality physically-modelled guitar suite would be a game changer for me.

It got me thinking what guitars (aside from the obvious) I'd like to see in such a suite. For me, it would be a Charvel Surfcaster, a Hagstrom Viking and a Kimberly Apollo, but that's obviously a personal choice from guitars I own or have owned over the years.

    What about you, fellow AudioSEXers?

Fender: strat, tele, Gibson: les, sg, hollow, Ibanez: RGxxxx 6/7 strings, PRS, Jackson, Charvel, Kramer... just first couple of theme that came into my mind... :dunno:

For me, physical modelling is not that convincing at the moment. MODO Bass is great sounding but I prefer a good sampled bass plugin. Listeing to the videos from IK Multimedia, MODO Drums does not impress me. Same thing with modelled vs. sampled pianos. Modelling is allways simplifying and therefore not as detailed as a sampled instrument.

I'm pretty sure they're not releasing yet a MODO Guitar because is way harder than a bass or drums.
A lot of articulations that they have to physically emulate.
And they have to compete with a several good sample-based virtual guitars. Even considering the obvious advantages of that technology.

Let's say they release a metal guitar and the palm mute sounds slightly worse than Shreddage's. Many people won't even consider that you can do way more variations of palm mute (length and so on). They'll just jump to say "MODO Guitar sucks, Shreddage/Dracus is the best"

I agree. Pianos and drums are not easy to sample, but they are way easier compared to instruments with many articulations, like bass, guitar or just a solo Cello. There are just many variables.
But for the same reason are the hardest to emulate physically. They're not there yet, but MODO Bass is a very promising start.

Guitars are difficult to model, especially clean sounds.
It's not only about the basic sound itself but also about the expression and playing style that has to be added to what the average user is going to play on his keyboard.
There are a few companies that do it quite well with samples, but guitar is about the instrument with the least amount of quality choices on the market.
Not even Spectrasonics dared to release such an instrument over all the years.
There are a few guitar presets in Omnisphere but they're more like ROMpler banks than authentic guitars.

Don't forget the learning curve for these virtual instruments. Keyswitches, ModWheel, Pitchbend… Better learn some basic skills on a real guitar. It will feel and sound much better...

Uh, I know about the difficulty of modelling, and I've been playing a real guitar for over 30 years. This thread wasn't about that, it was idle speculation about what guitars you'd like to see modelled in a theoretical perfect MODO Guitar world...

Even if it's the "theory" about how the real guitar is played (watching videos for instance).

Metal ones, more metal ones, Ibanez, for pussies a LPC (joke but no pun intended) and... and...
.. oh yes, and the Martin that was smashed down to pieces in "The Hateful Eight". No sampling possible anymore guys, you better start to model the shit out of it
