perhaps because that version was problematic.
You should rather use 5.6.0, it serves for adding libraries for newer (5.8 and later) versions.
From versions 5.*.* you better install 5.7.3 or 5.8.1
From versions 6.*.* you can install 6.0.3 or newer, depending on your OS version. These installations come with the 5.6.0 standalone app anyway.

I am going through the same issue...

    I have Mac 10.12.6 installed...
    I installed Kontakt 5.6 and 6.1.1.
I add library on 5.6 but when i close it and reopen it, the library is gone. In service center folder there is not any xml file.
I tried to add the xml file manually and still doesnt show when i open kontakt 5.6.
    I havent even tried 6.1.1 yet...lol

Please help. Been a couple of days of reading forum notes with no solution that works for me.
    Thanks!

When you load into 5.6 K'd version your library,it could come up that it doesn't show up into it...however,when you launch Live for example and run KONTAKT 5.8.1,it will be there:that's the trick...you load the library onto the 5.6 stand alone and then,5.8.1 in your DAW...

Instruments that work only in newer versions, won't load/work in older. As I said, in your case 5.6.0 standalone serves for adding the libraries.

Sometimes Kontakt saves the created xml file as a .tmp file somewhere in the root of your system drive. I don't remember the exact name now, it's three caracters with letter and number.

Ok, I tried many times with different libs. Nothing. it adds fine and works fine (standalone), But when i close it and re open it, it is no longer there. No xml file is created. Not showing on 6.1.1 either. I even tried to create the xml file my self and it still wont show up after a restart of kontakt. Please some one help.

    Ok, guys,
    let's start from the beginning...
CONFIRM the version of the Kontakt you are installing/talking:
    Native.Instruments.Kontakt.5.v5.8.1.MacOSX-iND
    Is it this one?

I installed 6.1.1 which also installs 5.6.0 for adding lib.

here is the way I'm doing:
1/open in STAND ALONE the Kontakt 5,6 KD from the file I named in the thread
2/Add library from it and load the nict file
Let's see how it goes from there later on...

I got it working last nite. So there is no XML file created when adding. Had to do it manually. My mistake was I was looking at the system library folder/service center on the mac instead of user/library/service center folder. It sucks that I have to do this manually every time I add a new lib, but i guess its better then doing it everytime i close. Thanks everyone for the help!!

Again... Using 5.6 to add (plus adding the xml file manually) and working perfectly on 6.1.1
