Can anyone please enlighten me why do the .rar files I download from the sister site fail extraction on my mac. They could possibly be corrupt but I watch the entire download take place without any disturbance and the size of the file is as said by the uploader. I have tried many different extraction apps from 7zip, Keka, UnArchiver to the default one on Mac but it keeps happening. Anyone can help me out?

@Prashant You should have specified that i is one the Spectrasonics releases. A lot of MacOs users have downloaded it and will be able to assist you.

Shiiiiit bro. I thought it was just a problem with the Spectrasonics releases because I packed them a little bit different but if you have same problem with other releases I think this thread should be moved to the MAC section.

Just guessing, but a classic problem with mac is that .rar files are v5 (made with Winrar 5).
Most software in Mac only is compatible with v4 made Winrar (or older).
It probably won't be that easy, but a man can dream...

Forgive my ignorance but when the files are packed and labelled as for "MacOs" shouldn't that be taken under consideration by the people who do it. I am just wondering this is way above my pay grade

You need to take into consideration the amount of work it would take to upload another 200 GB just for macOS users. If macOS users don't want to go the extra step to unpack, then they should not ask that the release be specially packed for them. But in this case it is not a macOS users problems. It is YOUR problem as a user. Whatever you must do to unpack those releases, you are not doing it correctly.

I am doing whatever my pea sized brain is capable of. However I would not say no to some experts help. Please guide me as a newbie and not someone who is a regular at this.

are you sure your folder permissions are okay?

Yes my folder permissions are fine. I had to do the whole disabling of SIP and stuff for Omnisphere to work. I tried with Keka but it fails extraction. I am more confused because I don't have the slightest idea of where is it actually going wrong. after the download or during

Nonetheless he (@Prashant ) is right. The labelling is misleading. To avoid those never ending questions about "defective" .rar archives, one should consider to just mention it in the description. e.g. by just copy and paste @tzzsmk sentence "latest Keka is only app which can reliably extract big archive files on Mac," That's way less than 200GB I would say

Much less but since Mac users always claim to be the smartest ones it is something I never thought of explaining for fear of insulting their high IQ. All jokes aside, it is something I will definitively do next time. It is not fair whether you are a Windows or MacOS to go through the same thing as @Prashant just to open some files. Thanks for the suggestion.

Again just guessing, doesn't Mac OS files need some especial files (.DS_Store and that jazz)?

Edited: so the Keka app is the solution?

hmm another thing you can try is, get Crossover, install WinRAR (for Windows) through it, and use it to extract your files on MacOS - if that fails, then you can be sure the files are corrupt

I've had mixed experiences with that one before, but recent versions seem more usable - it's my choice when I want to take a look into archives without extracting them, it can read incomplete archives too

@Prashant Kekas gets updated every now and then. make sure your's is up to date. Like @The Pirate said it's just YOUR extract application problem, no corrupt download whatsoever...
