I only noticed a strange thing with a release of VR.. "I didn't accidentally turn off the internet" and firefox opened on a page where there was a list with all the VR releases! I don't remember the name of the site, it was a blue color page!

well its an old post, but now with win 10 1903 you can run keygens in sandbox mode, so no more worry

yer but its built into win 10 1903, you have to activate it in programs and features, tick the windows sandbox box and restart pc

Interesting. But as the "Windows feature updates" behave like a virus themselves
I would need to run the whole system in the Sandbox

But fun aside:
I always wait months to install those updates as they really "introduce" new bugs regularily.
I use Sandboxie for years now and it's really easy to handle and one can understand what is happening inside the box because the path structure is mirrored into the box and you can see wich files/registry entries are changed.
Is it the same for WIndows built in Samdbox or is it just transparent what it does?

 

Not on Windows 10 Home only on Pro or above and not if the Keygen needs to read the Windows serial numbers.

I tried try-before-buy versions since Win 3.11, iirc and although some to all machines at virustotal.com showed warnings, I never had any problems with a virus or a trojan (but I didn't try every single plugin or DAW). You have to use reliable sources, like AudioZ, ofc.

I had a virus, only once, but a bad one.
It was around 1998 and it activated itself on April first.
My laptop was configured by default to enable changing the BIOS (normally you needed to set a jumper first). The virus flashed the BIOS so that it didn't even show anything on the screen.
I needed to send it to the manufaturer to reenable the BIOS. It took months and cost me some hundered $.

I don't know wich program it was installing the virus because it had this delay. But ever since I use a sandbox/virusscanner to check installer/keygen.

Btw. from time to time even legit software carrys a virus as we know, so there is nothing like 100% security. Backup, backup, backup.
