Does no one have anything to say about X4?

I am in agreement now, but it took me a long time to find this key to using it. Powerful indeed, but a lot of it seems to be hidden. THAT is the part that does not make it user friendly. At least to newbies I mean. If you are persistent, and study and don't give up, yes. Now that I figured this out, it does indeed have samplitude beat. For instance, the media browser in reaper is similar to acid pro, and actually now I find that it is even superior to acid pro. I can listen to MIDI loops in reaper and choose what channel and what instrument I want to audition on. That is a pretty amazing thing right there, and I've not seen that anywhere else. Surely not in samplitude. The "files" thing is not even a media browser in samplitude. My persistence paid off, and thank God for youtube video help!

Reaper is a top program. i moved over to it after trying to get into samplitude. it's as deep as you want it to be.
besides which it has a great forum and plenty of resources. oh, and it's ridiculously cheap for what it can do... : )

I like X4 very much and to me the GUI is just fine. What MAGIX really could remake is the Independence GUI.
@kooper could please post a link of the video for Reaper you mentioned above? Thanks!

Ok well let me ask you this. Are you able to actually listen to MIDI or audio on the fly in samplitude before you put it into the work area? If so I was not able to find that. Acid Pro I think was the first to do this. The "auditioning" of loops before you use them (and in sync too). Reaper does this, only better I am finding. Didn't see this at all in samplitude. I posted the video in the reaper forum. https://audiosex.pro/threads/reaper-with-midi.44559/

CTRL + SHIFT + B gets you the File Manager.

Yep. I found the file manager with no problem, but it does not do what I said in my message above. At least it didn't for me.

As a Cubase 10 Pro user, I have to tell you, Ive had my eye on Reaper for awhile. It seems like these companies update for the sake of updating, just so they can charge for money, an usually when they do it, they change the UI around, forcing me to relearn the UI after the update. Reaper doesnt charge for updates. Its a flat one time purchase and updates are free. Reaper is also much less memory or processor intensive. Cubase sits in 400 MB of ram, Reaper is 10% of that from what I have seen.

The UI is a bit daunting in Reaper, but much of that is because of the extreme customization it offers, and to be honest, the UI in Cubase isnt much better. I cant speak to many of the benefits of one over the other with any specificity because I merely use Cubase as a container to hold midi and audio, making occasional edits to what I record because I hit a wrong note, or dont hit a keyswtich fast enough for an articulation change and have to adjust the keyswitch note timing.

One of the big things is hardware support. I use a Yamaha Motif XF8 and an Icon Qcon G2 control surface with 3 Qcon extenders to give me 32 motorized fader channel support (orchestral compositions can get big real quick) and for the most part, Cubase has been really simple to use with them, Im not sure how well Reaper will do.
