Second time you've written 'an' outboard.
    It's just considered 'outboard' gear.
It's certainly not ITB, anyway! lol
Although he mixes totally ITB, obvs.
I think you should watch the vid to hear it in context.

Don't worry about "correct" (no such thing) @devilorcracker. There's only: can I understand it? (Yes) Plus it's kinda quite funny and sweet as a concept; like ur HD being an outboard motor or smthn! :D

Don't wanna spoil a moment, but isn't the shock moar likely to be - this giant shiny plastic thing that spins around (!) is making music! o___OMG MIND BLOWN! Usually when kids are freaked about music, they dance / jump around like mofos! (Much as I'd love to see some kid suddenly spazzing on about bitrates, compression, analog warmth and the like =)

Haha! No; he had seen vinyl in movement before. So a CD that spins wasn't a biggie for him. Actually, he demanded to know why CD sounded so much better (why his jaw dropped), so he got a full rundown on all that, yeah!
Scheps is talking about HD cards for I/O, thus avoiding the clock of the laptop; not Hard Drives.

Try telling that to someone who, after initial marking by teachers, proof-marks English Language exams when they aren't gigging! :winker:
What I understood from the phrase "an outboard" is that the writer may have a misunderstanding, to be saying it in that way.
In the UK we say 'mixing desk'. In the US they say 'sound board'. So, y'know...

@Smoove Grooves , I'm amazed the kid you babysat could tell the difference so readily. Instead of the typical total apathy fluoride stare.

Good job infecting the new generation with audiophilia.

10 year old ears are way better than an adults!
Plus both his parents are musical, so he has the genes.

  8. The whole thing is a commodity meat hoohar and I don’t believe in any of it. If there are such things as golden ears, and are such things as primadonna mixing skills, these things are determinative. If, for any mixing situation, a person with these supposed skills performs a mix, that mix will be substantially the same as any other such similar mix that person performs. You put the same inputs in, you get the same outputs out, a determinative process.

Consider the video ‘Fab Dupont Mixing TMBOY’, featuring ‘Good Morning Children’ Flab Dupont and which can be found at your sister’s. Flab is the kind of dude who can spend seven minutes A/Bing an onion skin EQ setting on a kick so that you can hear the ‘oink’ in it that he doesn’t approve of. I have seriously well renowned nearfields and headphones so exacting you can hear a gnat fart in next door’s garden and I can only just hear this ‘oink’ but it must be removed from the pristine perfection of his mix. This is a guy who puts an Oxford Limiter across his mix bus on idle because it makes it sound better (it does). This is a guy who puts a near idle UAD Pultec Pro Legacy Version across almost everything for the same reason. There is no acoustic hair too fine that Flab does not split it with an exactitude bordering on utter pretension.

And guess what? He was remixing a track he’d previously mixed professionally, and guess also what, his two mixes are nothing like each other. Not even close on the scale of de-oinking kicks. So much for determinism. Is it all just a bunch of pretentious bollocks? Well, it’s in the borderline, well within it but here’s somebody taking it to Nth degree and selling videos to people who can never live up to it. Now that’s what I call Snake Oil.

De-oinking kicks? :D ffs nao. I wish they'd de-quack some (Britney) vocalists! Just out of curiosity, does he happen sell a plugin that does that? (No doubt Waves will, soon!)

My outboard starts out ITB, but then no longer is after I install it in my rack.
