    Exactly ! Nice !
Meanwhile: thanks but no thanks Apple.
256 GB ssd and 32gig RAM for that money ?! Idiocracy 2.0.
And single thread performance (important for audio/music production) will still be mwah mwah for that money.

I am going for a new Hackintosh, 9900K based.
Or maybe wait awhile an i go for a new Hackintosh, AMD Ryzen 9 3900X based
(assuming it will be possible to build a Hack around this new CPU).

i donnow man, i think this is a good move for apple,
pros have been asking for a customize-able & upgradeable Mac like the old cheese grader since forever now, and apple is giving them what they wanted.
sure i think the price is funny, but for pros with high budgets/companies - they dont fucking care, they will pay for what they want, and i can understand them.

back in 2015 i really wanted a Macbook pro 15" and altho its even more pricey where im from - i bought it cus it was the perfect laptop at the time (and im still using it as my main workstation), however in my next purchase this year or next year, i will probably move to a windows laptop, only because apples macbooks are just stupid at this point - unless they fix all the issues in the next lineup (which i highly doubt).

The base config seems over price if compare to normal computer.

IMO, that’s a competitive price for a real work station class computer.

However, a normal computer won’t have such clean (cableless internal design), won’t build with that material and quality.

Won’t have 8 PCIe slots, won’t support ECC RAM, etc.

Buying a system that can address up to 1.5TB RAM, but only install 32GB RAM, of course is an expensive (not cost effective)

way to get 32GB RAM, because most cost actually goes to the logicboard or CPU etc.

For most power users or even professional use, we don’t need those real workstation class hardware anymore.

Nowadays, normal PC hardware, or gaming hardware is high performance enough for most high demand work already.

Unless have unlimited money to spend or really need a system that has TB of memory, building a “high end” (gaming hardware)

Hackintosh is way more cost effective than buying the 7,1.

  7. You got a light Mac?

No, but I got a dark brown overcoat.

It's cool guys, Apple makes the best machine so if you're a pro don't question what's in the box and just pick your macpro or macpro lite.

btw fyi, in case anyone would consider a hackintosh beating the top specced Mac Pro grater:
    1) comparable motherboard is Asus ROG Dominus Extreme and costs about 1800$ alone
    2) the 28core/56thread cpu is Intel Xeon W-3175X and costs about 3100$ alone, btw rated 255W TDP (O_O)
it's more than obvious even a PC of topped Mac Pro is something literally nobody would buy, so maybe the handful of customers will actually choose Apple

oh and on a side note, such specced PC running MacOS in KVM virtual outperform Windows 10 running natively on hardware, so as a matter of fact Apple beats Microsoft in their own game

While it remains to be seen how good or bad the Mac Pro will behave when used in the real world, the problem with Apple isn't the new Mac Pro. It looks actually quite good for professionals who don't need to care too much about the money and just want all the power they can get. It's a high end machine and the price seems to be fair enough for that.

The problem with Apple is all the other integrated, tightly boxed, non upgradeable, hugely overpriced hardware they sell.

If they would sell the current mac mini hardware in a Mac Pro case, ready to just plug in any SSDs, RAM, graphics cards you like, everything would be fine.

    But they don't.

in Apple presentation there was a rig shown with 6 AVID HDX cards - those cards will cost 31500$ alone (without actual mic/line converters) so paying another 31500$ for moderately specced Mac Pro is cheap deal

It's clear that Apple are trying to push the price of the Mac into new car territory, after that the sky is the limit (new plane territory). I do like the new monitor stand though...

Apple is selling Mac Pros in this price range for decades. The new Mac Pro is without a doubt a huge upgrade compared to the current $13000 trashcan Mac Pro.

But you may need to add extra concrete to reinforce your floor otherwise you'll land in the flat downstairs
