It is a matter of moving away from giving customers what they want and moving into giving shareholders what they want. Every company that has done this has suffered a backlash they never recover from. Then they get bought out by a rival.
MBA (Master in Business Administration) spells retard is my theory. It has yet to be proven wrong

If apple moved to a cloud based computing, you better believe they would put into the EULA that they get a piece of the pie for anything created with/on it. They are becoming a bad apple. :bash:

In the past it was possible to give both parties what they demanded.
But in the moment the Tim Cooks (pea counters, no visions besides money) took over the company they started to be concentrated on investors value only (or at least most).

Apple keep doing this. They've never given off a very customer-friendly vibe, have they xD

Thank God I'm not stuck in that quagmire..

I never jumped on the apple train (or is it the apple cart/bandwagon)
I have iPod classic (hate iTunes) and iPad for Omnisphere control that never worked, and watch vids when pooping.
    I hate Mac OS's too.

Sure Jobs was an asshole, but he was Apple. They had their greatest days during the two periods when he was in charge.

Intel(AMD) isn't going anywhere soon. There're Windows ARM laptops since a few years ago. They excel at battery life. They suck at high performance. That's only normal.
ARM architecture was designed for mobile devices. Intel/AMD architecture was designed for desktop computers. They're coming from totally opposite ends.
But ARM chips have an advantage. Besides being the best-sellers in the smartphone/tablet era. They just have newer architecture. There's quite a few "expendable" parts of Intel/AMD chips just because they have to be backwards-compatible (32/86 bit, instruction sets,..).
ARM chips have really cool features AMD and Intel doesn't have (like "flagging" memory to radically improve C++ debugging of manual memory management, the undisputed king of high performance development problems).

In the middle and long run we'll surely see high performance ARM desktop/latops chips.

Good times those. When I bought my first PC I was like... what a piece of s*t! lol.
But bad marketing sunk Commodore... Atari ST had the same CPU (motorola 68k) but the Amiga had a graphics chip, a sprite-moving chip, a sound chip (including TextToSpeech!), it was glorious.

This topic is very interesting, I could go on for hours...

why dont people stop slating windows and mac, you make your choice, no one forces you to buy a pc or a mac, mac= over inflated prices and are nearly 2 times what you pay for a top end pc, pc is interchangable and upgradable, mac not, i dont diss either system, i just know what i got is good enough to make music, this debate is just as old as what DAW is better, well the consumer determines that choice.

BTW, I'm surprised nobody mentioned Bootcamp, which is an Apple officially supported "Hackwindows". Drivers in order to install Windows on Mac computers.
I haven't tried them on a modern desktop PC but with old MacBook/Air they do wonders.

Yeah, I'm not to sure I like this. I may just buy a windows desktop and keep my Mac mini as it is in case I ever want to run logic 9. It would save me a huge amount of money too.

    It'll mess up hackintosh too.

He became an asshole more and more and in the end he was a world champion one. :)
But on the other hand he really was Apple as you said .
The two Steves never were on the same level (thinking leadership of a company). Wozniak was a great engineer but not more. Every single of his own projects imploded and he burned millions on idiotic ideas. With Wozniak at the top, Apple would have been bankrupt by 1978 imho. But he was/is a nice guy (read his autobiography "iWoz").
Jobs alone was the visionary, the heart and soul of Apple.

I do think Apple would be a better company for the users today when Steve Jobs would be still alive. Jobs never was very greedy for money but tortured Apples employees to achieve goals with the users in mind. His worst decision was not to make Joni Ive his successor.

P.S.: Apple and MS back in the seventies were really determinant for our lives today. Interesting read about is The road ahead (Bill Gates), Steve Jobs (Walter Isaacson),iWoz (Wozniak), On the firing line (Gil Amelio) ...

I never dreamed I'd say this but you're right Fudsey, I have been with Apple for ten years and I've noticed a persistent move away from the simplicity of giving users what they want to added bullshit we didn't ask for and a HEAVY reliance on what has worked in the past. Honestly I was thinking of doing a nice PC build my next upgrade as bad as I hate Windows, OSX isn't a whole lot better these days, Apple died with Jobs unfortunately.

  16. Well I've been on and off the Apple bandwagon since the Apple ][ in 1980. Jobsie was always looking for the new earner and wasn't afraid of disruption to existing markets. It may well be that workstations are twenty first century stage coaches. ARMs are capable of large scale computing but are (currently) more expensive than Wintel architectures. So death isn't certain. Running Wintel code over an ARM interpreter isn't going to be lovely, so it's cost, cost, cost if you want to stay in the game. That's the fate of Apple users. That or join the Win Seveners in refusing to go forward. Sooner or later the revenues will dry up and Apple will respond.

I'm not sure, but Tracktion Waveform could have a Linux version also, since it's developed with JUCE.

I would never ever recommend anyone to use Linux for audio production. Maybe in 5 years things are difference but as of today; no. If you like crashing and all around terrible experience use Linux for audio production.
I'm very glad I'm a Windows guy these days when you think about how Apple treat their creative customers. Their prices and hardware are laughable. Their supremacism and elitism is just appalling.
Apple either you come up with something better and cheaper than this or zip it:
