I'm always amused to see people bashing Apple, yet AVID (which for some reason people consider their products industry standards) treats customers like sh!t even much worse and nobody from big business complains

OK, I should have added more background information.
The recent $1200 iPad Pro models have worse audio performance than the current $400 iPad, and it seems that cpu throttling for thermal reasons is basically the cause of such troubles which are not apparent in "daily dumbass web surfing and youtube" use.

I got news for you: Apple flat-out doesn't give a fuck. Computer sales make up a very small part of their profit margin, which is why their current "most powerful" professional computer looks like a battery-operated air freshener (although the iMac Pro looks pretty rad), they hard-wire their RAM and hard drives so that you have to drag your computer to an Apple Store and pay an exorbitant fee just to upgrade something that you used to be able to do with a $56 HDD, a screwdriver and an iFixit page printout and their phones cost almost as much as their laptops.

Also, I just learned that my 2011 MBP, still running like a top, doesn't qualify for an upgrade to Mojave. Forced obsolescence. Fuck Apple. Rant over.

You should be able to upgrade with a patch from dosdude1. Pretty easy to install, there are a couple of dependancies older Macs don't have which Mojave has written into the OS, the patch disables the dependencies and has OS running flawlessly.

Ordinarily, I'm a little squeamish about "jail-breaking" (I wound up giving away my old black MacBook because I couldn't officially upgrade it past Lion without a lot of weird patching and glitches involved, even though it was more than capable of running more recent OS), but even Apple has some notes about how to get around that stuff for Mojave (at least for their older Mac Pros), so I'll definitely look into it! Much appreciated!

Your comment summarizes why I will probably never ever buy an apple computer.

Even during the 80s, I went with the commodore 64 over the apple 2e and I never regretted my choice.

As a side note, the price of their computers was already outrageous, thanks to Jobs genius (kind of).

Yep, I run two very large audio studios at a university, and this has also been my experience. In my neck of the woods, 9 out of ten studios and mastering houses use Mac. Anyway, they are just tools. Spend your time making music with what ever you have.

My first computer was an Amiga 500 ($500 back in 1990; no monitor included, but it had a video adapter that allowed you to plug into your TV set), still don't understand how Commodore went out of business. AmigaDOS was probably the best OS around at that time, and the Amiga line were the first computers with stereo sound (the SoundBlaster card was developed for the Amiga), NTSC and PAL video output capability, 3D CGI rendering capabilities, and they could use Mac and PC hardware, as well as being the only computer that could, at least back then, read files from both platforms. The only computer that came close at that time was the Atari ST (another computer system that went extinct).

I am completely OS agnostic and a fanboy of making music with an OS that gives me the most for doing exactly that.

Currently, that's Windows 7 for me. Still using Windows XP for some things, too.

All current most popular OSes more or less suck for making music, since they are not made with content creators in mind, especially the newest Microsoft and Apple OSes. Linux is getting better and more supported by day, though. It's the only popular OS that can be real-time, giving us extremely low processing latencies without tasking the CPU as much as Windows and MacOS do.

Anyway. It will be interesting to see what happens...

At the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s, the Amiga was the most advanced micro computer platform money could buy: Way more advanced than the 1st Mac and also the Atari ST. The only two advantages of the ST over the Amiga were the built-in MIDI interface and its price.

Basically, Commodore imploded because of the mismanagement once Jack Tramiel (CEO) was booted and left the company he founded. Many mistakes were made, starting with the price of the Amiga 1000 (the 1st Amiga, before the 500) which was a "Mac" price.

It's really unfortunate because the Amiga OS was a true multitasking OS and it was simply in advance of its time: Not even Mac OS was truly multitask in the 80s. Microsoft only implemented multitask with Windows 95 and NT 4.0 and both were buggy as hell as we all know.

We must not forget one thing: open source is the future. Microsoft understood this well with the introduction of the powershell and it still continues on the next updates. Little by little, they understood that a OS limited by its code cannot evolve, only to add useless stuff, makes the software less secure and heavy.
It will take a long time but they can only get away with it, by picking what works very well in the doamain of servers and the repository principle to update any machine without any problem. Linux elements will be introduced natively in MS. And like Apple, they will use ARM.
it doesn't mean that their code will be open but that it will be more flexible and less buggy. But this will take a long time.
I don't see how they can do otherwise. Because this is the case in many areas that innovate. Finally Apple and Microsoft are going in similar directions but not with the same objectives.
