Apple's Switch from Intel

  1. It's only religions that demand true believers. Why can't people be impartial? Back in the day, before Bill Gates saved the Mac by supporting it with Microsoft Office, they were known as Macatollahs. It must be tremendous fun being a Macatollah but its got eff all to do with music.

    I'm a tech guy, taking care of about 40 studios, some are running MacOS (varied 10.7.5-10.14), some Windows (7 64bit), honestly MacOS is literally no hassle once it's set up, while Windows becomes fcked up within couple years and needs complete wipe out and clean install (usually means new PC anyway);

I was long time Windows user but I pretty much left Win for Mac about 3 years ago when thoroughly tested first Windows 10 early insider builds proven to be disasters for administration without any performance/functional benefit,
    hackintosh is cool for personal non-profit use, built and running few of them, also having some old good MBP 2012 rockin in studio with Fireface UFX no need to upgrade unless it dies;

recently I'm researching options for various hybrid solutions, with audio-over-ip and software like Vienna Ensemble Pro and Bluecat Patchwork make multiplatform offloading solutions really interesting for serious audio production :)

you can still hackintosh at least for some years. Imagine if Apple woudl just stop support right now, all people who bought an 10000 iMac Pro would get very angry :D

Great points of view from everyone involved on this post. Now time for mine : )

    Apple will never die,
    Microsoft will never die.
    We can’t stop progress.
We will adapt, we will learn but most importantly “WE WILL NEVER EVER STOP MAKING DOPE MUSIC”

    Happy day to everyone.

I love macOS, I like the visual Apple Design.
    Thats it.

I dont like overheating, un-upgradeable, glued, hardware which might die after one year (look back to the dozneds of MBPs which graphicscards died a heat death).

I dont like that you only get one year warranty and have to buy more where other companies give you atleast 2 years or even more.

and wtf is going on with the latest Mac Keyboards ?!

I have never understood the love for Apple ... sure, they make good products... but they bind you in their propreitiism... and force you to pay almost twice as much as PC systems which do the same frickin job... Its beyond me... my bro in law is one of these Apple fanatics and his argument is just one line... Once you use Apple you can never go back to windows... I mean come on! Really?

  11. Am I the only person who finds the similarity between Morganaut (Ms Hackintosh) and White Sea STudio (Mr Snake Oil Audio) a tad suspect?

Shouldn't be afraid of the dress, dude.

I'm a lifetime Mac user with some pc experience. The fear was having another situation where all my plugins and soft stopped working and sessions wouldn't open. The frustration with the modern Apple was also due to all components not being swappable for upgrades and fixes. A pro user make be able to afford the drastically high markups but that might be a small percentage compared to Middle road users which make mac less profitable/enticing to soft developers and limiting software availability. Some have mentioned dual support for a transitional period which would be great and hopefully devs can pull off. Not to mention until a new macpro release the imac pro forces you to buy 5k monitors and such which heat and cause performance issues and are not needed for audio.

well, here's the thing, most people don't wanna waste time on fixin sh!t about their computer device,
by design (thanks to UNIX based kernel I guess), MacOS > Windows,
custom PC specced comparably to Macs costs roughly same, that's been proven countless times, for ex. just look at Microsoft Surface laptop costing even more than Apple's MBP,
problem with Apple is, they're stuck in their obsession with design and simplicity, basically cutting off Pro users with uncommon specific demands,
speaking of Apple's proprietary ecosystem, Microsoft is no better with their vision of Azure and UWP,
yea I can honestly tell I am not going back to Windows unless I'd wanna play some new games, Windows by design has problem with handling devices and drivers, update system fcks things up too, then there's registry, group policy editor and other stuff not really functional together

Yeah, it seems that if you state: "Once you use Apple you can never go back to windows" it´s the ultimate statement.... I´ve heard this statement myself and it sucks big time..... no reasoning why etc just free advertising for Apple.

On the other hand: If you´ve payed twice as much as a pc system you probably need to justify your choices?!?

I guess Apple will be very sad when no one will use macOS anymore without paying anything for neither software nor hardware.
So yes, you can see, it's the other way round: Apple is done with you. :)

No, that doesn't work. Virtualization requires the same hardware architecture (i.e. same instruction sets). Without it, only emulation is possible, and that's much slower.

in general true, but it really comes down to specific emulation algorithms,
Microsoft boasted years back that x86 apps run on ARM cpus at near-native speeds: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/windows-arm-x86-native-performance,34402.html
so I'd guess it wouldn't really be a problem to do the opposite, especially IF the Intel/AMD hackintosh will offer significantly more crude performance than ARM-based fancy Apple rig

Win 10 runs on ARM architecture already and 3rd party ARM hardware is available so it will be "just" a matter of hacking MacOS into the 3rd party ARM hardware.

Hackintosh or not we don't buy Apple computers. I admit it. However, we might buy apple trackpads, iphones, and other apple products..but if apple continues going this way, they basically block those potential customers. It's called business.
So sad you can't see that cause you're so attached to Apple emotionally just like other fanboys.
    Once Apple said "You're different!"

Apple is about to prove how arrogant and narrow-mined they are once again. All they do is "This is what I'll do, You're with me or you're an enemy" Just sell phones Apple, your fancy over-priced computers are fucked up.
