The Age Of Individualism Coming To An End.?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Radioactive Fallout, May 12, 2019.

  1. Maybe useful to young readers (some good opinions):

Philosophy is not dependable anymore because it's being controlled like other things. Who can say has access to reliable sources? Another one would ask what's reliable? :dunno:

No. Philosophy is an inner thing, not just an established, outer thing.
Many of us who have learnt from experience; therefore now knowing on an inner level.

holy clickbate troooling batman! beg that question.

prelode that assertion. do you have any evidence that philosophy is being 'controlled' and if so by who?

there are philosophical tools available to check sources. that is the whole point. i guess people who believe or who post such trash are not aware how that works.

this is like a 'sample library' attitude to philosophy. develop your fundamentals and use the correct tools to construct your own s*&^. like in any significant mathematical solution the answer is not as important as the methodology.

this is not useful to anyone who is informed at any age. we need a taskforce of well trained babies to moderate this type of content -- they have plenty of time on their hands.

    one leaves, one returns.

philosophy is not dependable anyway and it never has been.
philosophy is overrated. its great to get people thinking, but it really is just people saying whats on their mind.

an unknown person can say the most groundbreaking intelligent thing and everybody will laugh at them, but slap a philosophy tag on somebody and they can say the dumbest shit and be considered a genius.

would you, yourself ever depend on something a philosopher said, just because a philosopher said it?

    Individualism = Atomisation.

Philosophers have largely provided intellectual cover/justification for extant power structures, though there have been a few notable exceptions.

For myself, the gold standard on the subject is Bertrand Russell's 'History of Western Philosophy', which covers all the major philosophers and firmly lays them in their historical & social context with great clarity and plenty wry humour. If anyone wants a copy of a superb unabridged audiobook PM me.

There are better modern books that are usually more specialised - even for Russel's school of thought we can find overview books that are roughly the size of his "History of..."

My "favourite" philosopher is Edmund Husserl, try some of his writings for "real" philosophy (basically he was a smart guy, but almost unreadable). It's actually pretty funny.

This is the lounge section. If you are not interested in the topic pass your way.
Why would you want to rule over Audiosex content, when there are plenty of threads to read?

You call op a troll but for now the one I see entering the thread only to create a problem is you.

Btw, music is not only made with notes and sounds, intentions thoughts , feelings, emotions are a big part of it, that is where music and philosophy cross their way.

Many of the ancient phylosopher where musicians.

Correct. But they also knew what they were doing. Not everyone who states something "meaningful" (I really begin to like this term recently) is a philosopher. The fundament is a bit more complex. And if someone does not have the fundament than what you see all the time in those kind of threads is what happens.

I have stated this in another thread where this strange "offtopic badge" was presented:
Not the community but the Admins have to decide whats in a forum and what not. If everything is allowed "everything" is the coming out. And "everything" is exactly what you see in all those kind of threads. :guru:
