Hi everyone, I've lately been testing some new software sequencers I found like Dr. Chaos, the ML 185 and Rozzer. But I can't seem to be able to get them to do exactly what I want....

I'm looking for a sofisticated sequencer which will allow me to create more interesting and complex rythms.

Say for example a normal sequencer set to 4 steps total would run from step 1 - 4 and just keep repeating that pattern over and over. I'm looking for something that does the same thing, but then for example on the 5th iteration, start the sequence and play only steps 3 to 4 (and afterwards start all over again).

Would any of you have any tips or could point me in the right direction of this awesome sequencer I'm looking for?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

    xx Julie

The Elehtron Octatrack would be a good alternative.

Are you asking for M4L devices only ?
For those look at companies like Isotonik or RandomRiff generator (from ... I'can't remember right now)
(I can search a bit to send you a list

    Here are some cool VST's
    - Hy-plugins (MPS2-SeqCollection .... and this developper make also great M4L sequencers)
    - Stochas, from Audio Vitamins
And also WindChimes with is a pure stochastic/aleatoric note generator (RandArp too)

Nova3 and Mbiragen from Tone carver (blilliant)
    Transition (same principle as Nova3)

Hope you'll find what you're lookin' for

    (welcome on AS)

Not exactly, but Korg Gadget, also available for iPhone/iPad, is a pattern-based sequencer.
You can set a different time signature for every scene (like in Ableton Live) and play them in sequence.
In your example with very short 4-step patterns, you could either have 4 scenes set to 1/4 signature and the 5th scene set to 1/8 time signature, or (easier) just create 18-step patterns and program them this way.
Ableton Live can do the same, but I'm sure there are many others.

There's a free Gadget LE version that can do it too.

Mh, what you describe can be done by (almost) every DAW (formerly known as 'sequenzer') with the arrange option.

    And welcome to THE forum.

The most powerful sequencer VST I've tried is Kirnu Cream (available in you know where).
So powerful I don't know how to use it lol, I don't know if it can suit your needs but I'd take a look.

Kirnu Arp, there is a free version floating around on the internet, which imo is less cluttered/gets the job done faster then the paid version. There is numerology 4 , which is probably the most advanced software sequencer, but its OS X only.

Thanks for the great suggestions guys! I'm still trying a few of these out but it seems so far the Hy-MPS2 really anwsers to my needs and manages to do exactly that which I outlined above. Cheers :)!

I've seen a Kirnu v1.2, it must be that. It seems the paid Kirnu Cream is buggy in the last versions.

Wow, I had a second look to this one and it seems really powerful.

    BTW, nice avatar! Naruto fella?
