Ahhhhh . . . the darkside, and I thought you were upset with audiosex. Wasn't made clear with the original post (posted in wrong section maybe?)

I have to agree with ghostinhthemachine, making it private won't guarantee a better community, even private sites get shut down by the internet police, and you only need to look at torrent sites and other forums, and see some of the ungrateful comments that are made by people getting things for free. Trolling has become a bit of a illness at the moment, unfortunately.

"Reminds of something they might have forgotten" requires of a serious/responsible person that forgets everything and everybody for a moment and looks deep into him/herself. Unfortunately this is not something people seems to have time to do nowadays. You know already, first i download, complain about not working, and send everyone that tells me RTFM (read the fucking manual, .nfo, or even the text of the post itself) to the hell and then, if i have time i'll look into myself. IMO going private will not solve this at all because there will be people that will continue without reading anything and sending people to the hell. Of course you can ban that kind of people, but i think you'll know that there are some ways to bypass this, and we should not forget too that almost all which shows up in any private site eventually sees the light in any public download site.

In the real life, communities tried to protect themselves along history with walls, wire fences, vigilance towers with shooters in them, video cameras, cyber-police, etc. But did they (we) solved our problem ? ... In short, everybody tries to protect him/her/itself in a way or another, but do you know ? ... WE ALL ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THE ULTIMATE SECURITY that it's supposed will make us to live finally in peace, after million years!. But, nobody asks him/herself "of what i'm trying to protect myself in fact ?" ... Because you know, if we were to put that question to ourselves we will see that the only thing we need to protect in fact is of ourselves alone. Because oneself alone is in fact the only cause of our own lack of security, and not others (that at the same time are looking for their own security creating this messy world). And of course, trying to protect myself alone or a small group creating a bubble for us WIILL NEVER WORK, as human history have shown us all the time.

So, what all this has to do with AudioZ ? ... Well, you've answered already to that question when you say "maybe there's just no hope for us in this world" ... AT LEAST OF COURSE that all of the sudden EVERYBODY stops thinking in themselves alone and START thinking on others ONCE AND FOR ALL. After all, do you really think there would be any problem, no matter if it's in real life or just in AudioZ, If we were thinking REALLY about others (posters, crackers, noobies in this case) ?. We all know we are egotistic, maybe not in AudioZ but probably yes in other areas of our own life: with our parents, our friends, our girl/boyfriends, our husband/wives, our children, ... You all know already that popular saying which says: "Let he who is free of sin throw the first rock"

So, my question is: do you think that going private AudioZ will solve everything ? ... Till when if i may ask ?.
Are you asking me then for a solution ? ... Well, i have an answer to that: that people stop once for all thinking in themselves alone and start thinking TRUELY on others ...
But you know, as i know, and everybody here knows that this is ALMOST impossible after millions of years human being inhabit this beautiful planet.
And of course, don't forget that we have killed in a way or another all those that showed us in a way or another how egotistic we were/are.

In short, if you want a REAL solution then look deep into yourself, because the answer (and not only for AudioZ problem) has been hidden there all this time waiting for you to find it and take care of it.
But i doubt someone have any interest in all that, isn't it ? ... After all, It's easier to talk about this or that (or create some rules to follow) than look deeply into oneself.
Anyway, as someone who's already dead said at his arrival in England in the middle of first world war ... "I saw the people trying to help others when they themselves were those who needed help actually".

@Alraun: why do you have "fear" to go deep ?

    Kind Regards :mates:

Yeah, it is, if you think in terms of the indian mythology!

I am a hobby mythologist, that's why my imagery brain sometimes gets upper hand - and i like to use analogies. Mythologies are a important key to the understanding of cultures. It's much about symbolics and images. Even if one doesn't believe, that there are energy wheels, which are located at different parts of the (energetic) body, it's still possible to see them as symbolics for various psychological realms, as a foreign model for the understanding of the human psyche. Different cultures, different approaches.

So if you think in terms of that indian model:
The stallion is symbolic for the first, second, third (swadisthana) chakra. (power, sex, emotions)
A shaman has temporary experiences with the sixth (extented point of view) and
    seventh (realms beyond words).

Catalyst, we both were talking about Hitler and you've said that he seemed to be a good orator.
An indian would say he had much energy in his fifth chakra, what means the same thing.
The wise mare in a horse herd stands for the fourth chakra, which is about love and goodness.
She gains automatically the most respect. She mostly doesn't have to fight for that. It's amazing.
It's about Anahata Chakra, so to say. Most respected people on earth have a big heart.
Anahata stands in the midst of all as a balance. :mates:

    Coming back to the ground:
When one member says to another member "you are an asshole" and a third member or a mod comes and says "no, YOU are that asshole and you will be banned now"….
    Hm, that's stallion behaviour.

In a herd of young stallions a counterbalance is necessary. The whole electronic audio thing is male stuff, it's outweighing a male domain. When so many young males from different countries come together and there is no correcting counterbalance in form of a respected, benevolent, friendly person as a mod - then we have a fight club.

fraggle83, nice to have you on board of this topic! I have no fear to go deep inside myself. In fact i am used to it. But yes, i am sometimes reserved and more careful to bring it to the outside world - for good reasons. Everybody has it's likings and weaknesses. This field of written comments is really still new territory for me. I am about to learn and approach for charity.

In the end it's not up to us. SAiNT is the boss, it's up to him to decide, what's necessary to change and what is not.
We can be lucky: he doesn't behave like a stallion.

I know you don't have fear, i meant your "fear" to go deep here because a comment you've made at the end of some of the posts you've published in this thread. And yes, everybody has it's likings and weaknesses, but i think (and probably you'll agree with me despite the  ) that those weaknesses are after all related somehow to fear too. Do you know what?, i was listening few minutes ago in a local radio about how most of the people live in Mexico nowadays, and i doubt many of us could live in that state of constant fear to be abducted, or killed, or to feel threatened all the time. Anyway, i think life is worth to be lived if we fight constantly to break those weaknesses even at the cost of our lives (physical death as well as other ways of dying like loosing a job, a partner, or anything else) ... But certainly, this is something personal and each one knows what he or she has to do in each and every moment, admitting as you have done that we are mere human beings and as such also we are afraid of doing some things sometimes. So, that we have fear.

And before someone here were to tell me this is an off topic, let me say that this is not ... because some noobies AudioZ users asked me for help through PM because either nobody pay attention to their requests or they have fear somehow to be ridiculed in public (as it happens sometimes). So, besides the problem Catalyst has pointed out here, this is also one of the problems of which (unfortunately) nobody's talking about here. And again (i'm sorry to be so repetitive), this has no need AT ALL for another rule, or for some addendum to the Catalyst list of rules, but merely that people think TRUELY on others ... After all, we all have been noobies at one time or another. And of course, WE ALL felt bad when someone mocked at us in public forums or didn't pay attention to what we were asking for ... I'm i wrong on that ?!, I don't think so! ... But despite that, we lose immediately our memory and forget that in some moment we also were noobies. It's because of that that we rush forth with the new ones instead of helping them, isn't it ?.

    Kind Regards! :mates:

    Wow!
Yes, some backgrounds are personal stuff.
I've lost nearly everything during the last years (also because i broke some weaknesses)
and i am still on my way of recovery - psychologically, physically, materially.
Some things are already changing, some do not. Maybe that explains it a bit for you?
If i can avoid a conflict or have the chance to help to calm things down - i will do.
But i have to take care of myself too.

Every bad thing has something good.
I am grateful. At the darkest point of my life i discovered these sites and the music helped me a lot to overcome the worst part of this period and to save my life.
I want the best for these sites and for other people. For me it's easy to accept the guidelines of this topic.

    Thanks, guys :mates:

Not only a bit, but a lot more my friend. I will not say anything about your problems in the past (nor in the present), because i'm not that kind of person that use to give
advices to others on how they should live their lives while in fact they don't know anything. Despite that i can say that i understand you fully and deeply inside. And i don't
think that this could be ever possible, but who knows, maybe some day we'll have the chance to give a walk (or have a drink) together while listening to one each other
talking quietly about the real life.

I think i've said already this somewhere, but allow me to say it one more time ... "nice to meet you, Alraun!".

    A big hug! :mates:

I think conversations could be kept more relevant to the topic at hand if for example people didn't leave comments on a Reason thread that musicians that use loops and 4/4 grids aren't real musicians or if Mac users weren't begging for software in Win posts. Take that out of the equation and it's smooth sailing. Sometimes I write more in response to some of the ridiculous comments that people post because I feel I have to counteract the ignorance that many seem to have.

I'm just trying to give people some perspective. It's not like I plan to make this my life's work or anything. I'm just hoping maybe this can alleviate some of the issues we've been having. Probably not as I don't exactly have faith in people's humanity but you gotta at least try. I have to disagree with you on the last part of your commentary. People from this site are already making YouTube videos advertising AudioZ and other idiotic nonsense that puts us on the radar and creates too much word of mouth. Plus it ranks at the top of search results so that can't help. These mooks will fuck it up for everyone one way or another. I can't really imagine it gaining much more attention than it already has but then again who knows?

I don't know of a way to post it straight to AudioZ as I had the impression that only staff can do that. Plus I didn't want to be threatening by making it seem like I'm so important that I need to get up in everybody's face as soon as they get on the site. This way people can check it out if they feel like it and it feels more like guidelines than rules. I have to disagree with you concerning one aspect of private sites. Either they all have amazing moderation or people actually place some value in their membership because comments are not littered with as much crap as we get here. When something is unlimited it has no value and people treat it like toilet paper. Also though it is true that private sites also get shut down it is usually the public sites that make the easiest targets because they are easier to infiltrate and first on the list of all those 3 and 4 letter dinosaurs that refuse to adapt.

Be the change you want to see in the world, so you just didn't do that and kept going off topic and kept feeding the trolls, always there is one troll with few posts that write "mac please" and that is turned into endless pc vs. mac debate, just now I saw pc user on NI post starting new debate, so bring popcorns it's on

Someone was wrong on the internet, what's new

Sometimes i don't know if i should be  or :dunno: or :snuffy: or :dont: or :( ,
but your popcorn thing makes me laugh again.
To have the ability to see even serious things with one humourous eye,
without making them ludicrous, is kind of an art and always a good thing.

Fraggle83, i am glad you mentioned this. I myself was a longtime observer, before i registrated to AudioZ, because i've seen things like that.

Catalyst, if you would be as desillusionated respectively resignated as you once have said,
you wouldn't make yourself these thoughts or spend your time with this, wouldn't you?

Hugs to all of you likeable guys

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.
    -Friedrich Nietzsche

Oh my friend I have stared long into the self...too long. So long that I fell in. Sometimes over thinking every aspect of your psyche isn't a worthwhile pursuit in my opinion. Especially when we're a product of this diseased world and the human psyche is an abyss. Ignorance is bliss and truth isn't always what it's cracked up to be. Seeing certain things in yourself, others and the world fundamentally changes you and there is no going back to the land of the blind after that. Nonetheless believe me when I tell you that I have looked at and worked on more than most. I'll prove it right now. I hate people. Ever since I was a little kid I just found the human race ridiculous. Maybe I had an "old soul" (not that I believe in the soul) or whatever during my childhood that made it difficult to connect with others. I was reading Nietzsche and listening to Industrial while everyone else was making fart jokes. I guess you could say that I was very introverted. I was a nice person to those around me, popular and well liked in any circle but I felt an inner revulsion to human beings. That isn't to say that there weren't people I liked but as a whole I couldn't stand the human race because the average member was usually about nothing, insipid, egotistical, brainless, hurtful, absurd, vain, etc. Through the trials in my life I have had to incorporate certain characteristics that I have long hated in others in order to survive. So I guess you could say I became a monster in some respects. Incorporating negative characteristics to overcome...talk about a mindfuck. Nobody thinks about this when they're imagining balance as it's always striving for good that they envision. I guess it's a lot more palatable. Now read those guidelines again and how I interact on the site and tell me that it was easier to write some rules than look into myself. I don't know about you but it doesn't read like someone that hates people to me. As you can see I am working hard on that issue and have been for as long as I can remember.

Though you are correct that throughout history walls have not been successful I don't think it's the same thing so maybe I should provide you with a better analogy. If you were going to do something illegal would you want to go around teaching every bumbling idiot out there how to do it and bring them into your crew? No, that's ridiculous because it would attract massive attention to your endeavor. You would want to be involved in a tight circle of people that know what they're doing, people you can trust and people that make your experience smooth, painless and enjoyable. People that respect you and respect what they're doing. Regardless as to the debate on whether file sharing is moral or ethical it is still in a grey area of law. With each ruling we come closer to linking being made illegal with the unintended consequence of destroying the freedoms that countries have fought long and hard for so there is much at stake. Once they start regulating what we say online we've got some serious problems and we're not that far off and in many ways this is already a reality. Everyone can't have access to such things because it is not a sustainable system nor a desirable one. Just think about it: we have famous producers making tons of money that download files for free. There is absolutely no excuse for this. With some people doing something illegal it can go somewhat under the radar with minimal enforcement. With everyone doing the same thing it creates a situation where the reprisal is swift and crushing for everyone involved. This is leading to increasing censorship and systems of surveillance. What has the spread of file sharing to the masses really created? A bunch of lazy, spoiled, ingrates...I mean let's be real here. Before people were putting something in whether that meant sharing files or putting in the effort to learn, make connections and therefore there was some balance with what they got out. Without that it becomes just like the cocaine rat experiments where rats keep hitting that lever until they die or until the scene is destroyed. Scene groups have foreseen these circumstances and said time and time again to keep their releases off of public sites. I cannot count the number of times I have read this. If you notice with increased public file sharing penetration there has been at the very least a directly proportional increase in enforcement. Maybe you don't agree but I have seen this for a long time and every single event just validates my viewpoint. Maybe the cat is already out of the bag and getting it back in is impossible. However, I know one thing: Mainstream file sharing will kill file sharing a fuck of a lot faster and more efficiently. I hope nobody that's new to this will take this personally as I'm looking at it strictly in the context of the survival of the scene.

There is no such thing as for others as everything is a selfish act. Even a mother's love for her child is a selfish endeavor. People do things because it makes them feel pleasure plain and simple. If they can simultaneously avoid some pain in the process then that just sweetens the pot. Somewhere in their mind is a conditioning link that says: this type of behavior makes me feel good or this type of behavior helps me to alleviate my pain. People have kids because it makes them feel good by giving meaning to their lives through fulfilling their natural instincts. People pray to gods because it makes them feel good by again giving them purpose, meaning and hope. When people help others they ARE helping themselves. In fact this is oftentimes a good technique when you yourself feel bad. And shit these days who couldn't use a little help? Even my guidelines are a somewhat selfish endeavor. If people follow them then I get to be in an environment that is less stressful and more enjoyable. If I can make a better experience for others in the process then that's even better. Not that I rationalized it that way in my mind but deep down on a subconscious level I believe that is exactly what is happening when we think we're being so altruistic. Everything is about the self and for "others" is an illusion to make us feel better about our own inherent selfish natures. People have banded together, through the evolution of our species, out of necessity not love. It doesn't make you feel all warm and fuzzy but it is the truth.

You didn't think I was done replying to everyone and left you out did you? Never! Yes symbols are definitely the key to understanding not only cultures but people themselves. However I have to disagree with you that the most respected people have a big heart. Let me make a distinction: the most respected people on earth are PERCIEVED to have a big heart when in reality most of them were operating out of their own selfish desires. This is true even of a figure as respected and idolized as Mother Theresa. On another note I must agree with you that moderation is the key to a better community at AudioZ.

Alraun your other comments really resonated with something in me. When I was reading about your life it was as if I was looking at my own written words. Honestly, I am really saddened by your pain and though I don't know you personally I really hope my sincerity shines through in my words. I too have found myself in the abyss I stared into for so long and it left my life in tatters as a painful reminder of the nails I walked on for the entirety of my existence. A testament to my inability to come to terms with the world and other people. In the last few years I have become very detached, emotionless and troubled and music has been my only way out so I grabbed it with both hands. It reminds me of a great quote from the original Psycho: "You know what I think? I think that we're all in our private traps, clamped in them, and none of us can ever get out. We scratch and we claw, but only at the air, only at each other, and for all of it, we never budge an inch." I know that life can sometimes get the better of us and at times like these we need to rethink, rearrange and regroup. This is the opportunity for a better self to emerge and it looks like you're on the path already. Just the fact that you are grateful immediately makes you rich. Definitely a prerequisite for a life worth living. Maybe one day we can go have a few drinks and swap war stories. Let me finish by saying that I am a better person for having known you even through something as trivial as a discussion on a music forum. Keep your head up and your feet moving. If there is anything I can do for you please do not hesitate to ask and I wish you the best of luck in all of your endeavors. :mates:

As to your comments about how my actions are contradictory to my vision of myself I guess I am in a constant chaotic state between various disparate ways of looking at life. Mostly I stay disillusioned though. It's really difficult to live life in this way and I do long to overcome those barriers. I don't know if I'll ever finally make it there, however the road to the self is in the trip not the destination. We may never get to our intended target but the most important thing is that we still make the journey.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world." I wonder if people would have the same connotations about that statement if they knew the person that made it was a pedophile and a racist. Talk about hypocrisy.

I believe in holding people accountable for their actions. Maybe the change I wish to see in the world is being a voice of reason for others. In real life if someone makes a ludicrous statement based on no information whatsoever I call them out on it. Maybe by doing so they will rethink their arrogant position in future interactions. We are after all each others mirrors. Also keep in mind that sometimes when you teach you are also simultaneously solidifying your own grasp of the topic at hand.

If you're referring to the the user haze who put up benchmarks comparing various incarnations of Windows & OS X I thought it was really cool. Particularly because it was solid data that showed that in fact it is PCs that are better in general and for audio production (and not just better but significantly better). Not that I care that PCs came out on top but that it clearly displayed that people are ignorant about many things. They just repeat nonsense that is perpetuated through the years and mostly by the company that wants you to buy their products. That's okay but don't expect that nobody will challenge you when you repeat such misinformation in public in a place where PC users hang out. On a side not some of your comments made me laugh so thanks for that. Alraun and I definitely agree that being able to laugh at how ludicrous life is sometimes can be a major advantage. I think it's one of the fundamental characteristics of a life worth living.

I tried before to be the voice of reason, because in real life I'm like that, but on other hand respect people beliefs no matter how wrong they may be IMO, I could be in their eyes too, so it's fair just minding own business and let trolls to be trolls and frustrations of someone just go unnoticed, have a nice laugh and continue living own life.

I'm glad I made you laugh, than my work is done :mates:

You're right. I usually respect other peoples beliefs but since I am very logical it becomes hard to ignore things that can be shown to be true or false with facts. Sometimes people's ignorance gets on my nerves but I know it's definitely better for my health to ignore it. You can't change anybody else's mind anyway and after an argument both parties usually leave with the same opinions that they came with. Anyway I'm glad to see there are still cool people to have open-minded conversations with on this site. May you always keep finding the humor in life. :mates:
