Hey all, just in case anyone hasn't discovered this yet I wanted to point out a cool emulator in the stock Ableton Live AutoFilter plugin. If you look below the x-y controler window there is a dropdown that says "clean". When changed to OSR it becomes an emulator for the old Akai samplers (I think S900?). You can change the bit rate to 12 in the options next to it and adjust the drive as well. This used to be available as a separate purchase but now is included as a standard. I only recently started digging into the options and am amazed at how powerful autofilter actually is.

Auto Filter offers a variety of filter types including lowpass, highpass, bandpass, notch, and a special Morph filter. Each filter can be switched between 12 and 24 dB slopes as well as a selection of analog-modeled circuit behaviors developed in conjunction with Cytomic that emulate hardware filters found on some classic analog synthesizers.

The Clean circuit option is a high-quality, CPU-efficient design that is the same as the filters used in EQ Eight (see 22.12). This is available for all of the filter types.

The OSR circuit option is a state-variable type with resonance limited by a unique hard-clipping diode. This is modeled on the filters used in a somewhat rare British monosynth, and is available for all filter types.

The MS2 circuit option uses a Sallen-Key design and soft clipping to limit resonance. It is modeled on the filters used in a famous semi-modular Japanese monosynth and is available for the lowpass and highpass filters.

The SMP circuit is a custom design not based on any particular hardware. It shares characteristics of both the MS2 and PRD circuits and is available for the lowpass and highpass filters.

The PRD circuit uses a ladder design and has no explicit resonance limiting. It is modeled on the filters used in a legacy dual-oscillator monosynth from the United States and is available for the lowpass and highpass filters.

U got that a BIT (see what I did there?) wrong mate. I'm not sure if ur just pulling our leg tho? Just like audioplg said, the drop-down menu are just filter types, and the 12/24 are the slopes. No Akai emulation here bud, but u can but a Redux behind the auto filter for some 12-bit lovin, won't be spot on Akai, but meh.

Um yeah.. no. Its the same thing in Sampler and in Simpler, different filter types and 12/24db slopes.

Although I prefer to use the real shit instead, I really like it when people dig the low-fi sound ITB like this. It's the next auto-tune! Fuck hope not.

Keep digging! [as in "liking"] Make some nice, heavy shit. Maybe give a whirl to TAL-Sampler, too,

Hmm.. I came across the discontinued akai/ableton plugin when researching stuff on wasgedn's akai hardware thread. I later found out that it was implemented in the Live10 version. Can't find it now so I guess I just created this whole backstory story about a random vst in my head..

You have my permission to kick me in the acousticals.

I like emulations of vintage stuff a lot, never ever imagined to have so much possibilities in one laptop, it amazes me every day. Synths of all kinds, Compressors, EQ‘s, Tunes. But this 12bit thing has not been matched in a comvincing way. Can‘t funk with the originals. SP1200, Emax1, MPC60,S900/950,EPS16+.
And i tried/owned some of those.
I ll go on try out those Emulations, one day maybe they get it right, dunno.
But the punch & crunch is not yet convincing enough. Just my 2 cent. But i would like beeing convinced of the opposite.

I'm not an Ableton user, but any1 tried this yet:

Legowelt introduces the SMACKOS LEMURIA VINTAGE SAMPLER SIMULATOR for Ableton- an FXthing that simulates the sound of old samplers - turn your soggy porridge productions into powerful raw cult classics! Get that solid esquisse, that wooly digital warmth, the frangible artefacts of anti-aliased smoothnesss of an Akai S900, Sequential Prophet 2000, EMU EMAX II, Ensoniq Mirage etc.- All convienient in your Ableton DAW withouth splashing $$$$$$$ and mucking about with floppy discs, quickdiscs or USB floppy emulators. Check legowelt.org to download and listen to the mp3 demos and read the manual. Give your sounds that sketchy foggy soul and digital mystique -> Instal on Ableton 9.7 + , 10 and up! Works on Mac and Windows computers. Easy to use! (even if you are a jock or fondantkip)! – just drag the SMACKOS LEMURIA VINTAGE SAMPLER SIMULATOR.ADG file into your MIDI or Audio channel and off you go!!!!

Edit: http://www.legowelt.org/ site down actually unfortunately

Totally true about that sound, hasn't quite made the transition to software yet.. I try to get close by stacking plugin combos, tal and rx950 help for sure. I like this freebie "cyclone"
    http://soniccharge.com/download?~cyclone
also. Has a great analog-ish sound if you have the patience.

I do like the autofilter for what it is too. Playing with some stock features and liking some stuff i overlooked in the past, ie changing the wave form and resonator option to add some grit. The drive knob is pretty slick.

If u sample from vinyl (may work digitally too) highpitched, then pitchback in sampler to normal speed may add something of the oldschool vibe too!

Hmm.. now if I can find some royalty free vinyl libraries. Some of the battle records claim to be royalty free but they tend to have a crapload of well recognized song soundbytes which i somehow doubt we're cleared for use.. I really dig this tip for Digi and vinyl though :grooves:
