AI isn't a very emotional topic for me, a bit repetitive so my boredom gets the best of me at certain points but interesting topics for sure.

That's what the bands said in the 1980's when the fucking DJ's showed up... now the DJ's will be crying with pre-programmed shows where the visuals is the star!!

You make a good point, though there of course there is that time which will come of "Singularity" that Hawking stressed about and that could very well spell that ALL the music is produced for The Borg collective and we all get to make it with Seven of Nine.

I think music production including songwriting and composing for film, will be the last matter for AI simply because music is too sophisticated for AI presently. Once AI reaches this sophistication then AI will be able to do everything, I mean everything. doctors will be out of their jobs including engineers and even scientists. The last thing AI will be able to reach is art as art needs more than simply just logic and numbers. Art needs intuition and feelings that we still can't properly explain. These qualities will not come to AI yet. It will take some time and eventually it will happen but when it will happen, producers making music and not be able to pay for basic life will be the least of our problems. Personally, I cheer for AI as AI will be the next major evolutionary step for humankind and the advancement will be amazing and amazingly fast. I am talking about star travels, super advanced tech, nanotech... etc. However, I believe we still be able to make music and in this, we will be able to still make amazing music that even AI will admire. :)

Indeed. The issue for AI is that it isn't known how to get machines to 'understand' anything. I guess the counter argument might be to ask if humans 'understand' anything either. If consciousness and will are essentially illusions forming a sort of "user interface" for the subconscious to proceed to its goal of fucking a lot, then maybe there is considerably less to being human (and less 'understanding' of anything) than we might like to imagine. After all, seemingly the brain is an entirely physical thing which is physically reconfigured as things are 'learned': does that provide a route for brains to 'understand' things in a qualitatively different way to a pile of cogs and levers being similarly configured?

One interesting aspect to this: I saw a Chomsky lecture on YT in which he addressed "materialism" by pointing out that there is no real definition of "material" (what was known as 'matter' is now conceived of as energy (vibrations of a field) so what of 'material' in the old sense?)

Hmmm. How do you know? It seems very unlikely imo. The amount of education and access to information in the world has increased enormously. Difficult to believe the 'average intelligence' was higher two hundred years ago, or even twenty.

    Is there a Mac version?

first part of this is spot on imo:wink:
but I do think that AI can replicate a lot of people's taste/style, most skilled producers on this forum can more or less replicate the billboard top 20 right now, why couldn't AI in 5 years? whether or not you listen to it/engage it, pop music exists because there IS a formula

True. Though is impossible to prove 100% scientists believe 15000 years ago Cro-magnons and Neanderthals had at least very similar intelligence to nowadays people intelligence.

There's an incredible good movie that uses this as the plot argument (I just mentioned a 5 minute spoiler, I'm not that bad ;-) ):

How do I know the average intelligence has gone down? Lol
I don't know where to begin lol.
How about the average vocabulary in 1947 compared to now? How about the average person in today's society inability to fathom self responsibility that would have just led to death in 1825? How about comparing the average sophistication of public music in 1937 compared today ( ear training) how about comparing statistical high school grades across last 50 in USA demographic?
We can look at many things .
Look at the boneheaded films being made consisting of 1 sylabsyl words that would have never got to go 75 years ago .
Now when I say the average I'm speaking about statistics here , meaning we do have a 7 percent to 10 percent part of the public smarter than ever
But we are seeing outsourcing of intelligence as each new iPhone comes out .
People text in the same room instead of speaking .
The majority cannot write pen and paper anymore .
The average attention span is 15 times lower.
Don't forget all the great minds are 100 years old now .Einstein. Turing can go on and on the inventions over time .
Take music, every musician used to read write sheet music and know music theory.
Now we think making sounds is music.
Boom click boom click look mom I made a song
I'm going to be rich and have 75 big titted hookers because I learned how to hit a big red button on the screen .

Artificial intelligence is not a worry taking over music.
It's artificial psychology artificial emotions and ai all together that you would need to take over music and we not seeing that anytime soon.

People have left everything especially their thought process up to the machines in the last 50~70 years. Making music is just one of them. Without deep thinking by humans, there won't be any deep music for them. Machines-made music is hollow as has been shown previously, and no need to prove it again by another machine named AI.

People must be disarmed (esp. their DAWs) and put into thinking-camps if there is any.

    We are mixing things here.
One thing is the intelligence and another completely different is how we use it, or how much.
I get when people say "intelligence is sexy" but for me is more "in what things do you spend your intelligence". Be it more or less.

    Hello,
    My impression regarding intelligence is
" Consideration of all known varibles"
And what I mean by this the the human beings capacity for misunderstanding in compartmentalization containing missing varibles of how reality works.
So for instance , in areas of psychology , emotion, cognition
The exact degree which our thought models happen to be missing chunks of information in key varibles of how that context works in reality,
Our thought models of such context become inaccurate to the point of being industiguishable from fantasy or pure imagination.
    Here is an everyday example.
Tom and Mary are a busy couple fairly independent yet try hard to make time together for their relationship.
They both work hard in different areas of work then typically make enough time for each other on average to make the relationship work and balanced.
Now on this one occasion both Tom and Mary have been especially busy with their work let's say it happens to be the summer time things become busier and more hectic than normal.
Now one day tom starts to think about how long it has been since they seen each other trys calling gets no answer .
Eventually he is walking over to Mary's apartment
He sees a man leaving the front house he trys yo walk up and speak to the man but does not make it in time as he walks up to the front door begins thinking about how Mary has not been in touch a while now , coupled with seeing the man leaving he begins to get emotional and feelings of jealousy and imagines Mary having an affair , powerful emotions rush through him as he approaches the front door . He sees images in his mind of Mary cheating on him and that is why she has been avoiding him and now a man leaving the house.

We all know too well how common this is .
We all know that in fantasy imagination our brain creates the same powerful feelings and emotions during misunderstanding as it does when we are understanding and the key difference between the two is
" Consideration of all known varibles"

This leads me to the Crux of my argument regarding this topic.
Us as a species are not even knowledgeable enough about the concept of how we work for single human beings (while totally being ignorant about the specifics if our consciousness ,)
To gain enough intelligence to prevent further misunderstanding in our lives from purely philosophical means.
    This leaves us here
    1. We know close to nothing about how this specific meat machine called the brain step by step arrives at intelligence, psychology, emotions
To the point of practical application regarding maximising intelligence .
    2. We cannot even conceptually fathom
    The structures categorically to philosophically
Each derive a system for using our thought process to effectively remove misunderstanding Into the future of that life from now on, by developing a trial and error process of developing
" Consideration if all know varibles"
Accurate enough so when the next day or week or month comes
Our capacity for misunderstanding reaches zero percent.( By developing a philosophical framework which uses the thought process in 0sychological framework ,whole being connected to our rationality, and our emotions)
