I really like JXL and his openness toward music making. He passionately explains his thoughts, his sound design process and the reason he chooses a certain gear for a particular sound.
This article by SOS magazine was an interesting read, specially the part about his gigantic Cubase template and how he believes Protools summing sounds different.
It's a recommended read if you haven't done before.

Well, I don't blame him. Pro Tools sucks and Cubase is amazing in both the MIDI- and audio department (oh, and his boss Hans Zimmer used/uses it, so...)! :)
Yes, I too had to learn PT in order to work in the "industry" (since many companies and studios use it) but it is not moving forward like the rest of its competitors. PT have maaany areas/features where its still lacking, especially for music composers. It's outright laughable.
I've used Cubase since 1996 or so. Cubase is the winner IMO (between the two), despite the recent Avid stock rise (because of increased sales/subscriptions).
    Jmho.

    Thanks for the info.
I used Cubase before and I liked it but I have moved on to Reaper since the load on my PC is much better with Reaper. I can run a lot of track with Reaper and the latency is very good. I have heard the PT is the industry standard and not necessarily the best.
Again thank you for the information and confirming my hunch that PT is just not up to par with the other DAWS.

Reaper is great! Although, latency has nothing to do with what DAW you use.

"Industry standard" is a watered down sales word that Avid have used for many years. Yes, many professionals use it and it does its job, but they are falling behind. You'd be amazed at how much music is being made on FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic, Cubase, Reason, etc.

Latency, it does when you start loading a lot of tracks and try then and record some live guitar.
I can get by in Reaper with a 192 buffer size or smaller. But I am not here to start a war about Cubase or Reaper.

Again I thank all that replied in regards to my question.

Latency is usually audio interface (driver) dependent and hardware dependent, not DAW dependent. There is in- and out latency (two of them. Maybe you mix them up?). Maybe you have some software and/or hardware conflicts. 192 samples buffer size also seems like an odd number.
I've used Cubase since 1996 and Reaper since 2012. I'm also a guitarist and use RME audio interfaces (down to 48 samples buffer, about 1.4ms latency in). I record at low buffer and mix at high buffer, which is common practice.
I hope you find out what is causing the latency problem. If you are on Win PC, checkout LatencyMon (freeware).

I find this part the most important in the interview with Mr. Holkenborg. Admittedly the interview was made 4 years ago, but this is still and always absolutely relevant :

"I have a very large setup, and if it is stable, you run it for as long as possible. The last thing you want to do when you're in the middle of a project is to update your software, like for example go to Cubase 7 and find that suddenly some plug‑ins don't work and some functions aren't there any more. For this reason I'm still on Cubase 6, and an early release of Pro Tools 10. We also run an early release of Windows 7, which we can do because none of the computers go online. The computers in all four studios are on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and they never crash. I changed my setup after Man Of Steel 14 months ago and none of the four rooms has had a crash since then. The only thing we do is restart sometimes, just to clear the memory. I used to be one of the technology trendsetters, an early adopter, and would buy software the day it came out, so I have dealt with a lot of the initial bugs that came with all these programs. It's really nice to have had three years of not running ahead of the pack in terms of new software developments."

That's pretty much what I've been telling people here all along. Pros will understand it, and rookies won't. However, I can absolutely understand the drive behind trying out new things... I've been there, too, and Holkenborg as well.

We have so much in common, Holkenborg and I, aside from success and money, of course.
Same age, same experiences in the 80s and 90s, same drive to have and use everything possible, and love of sampling and synths. I became a fan after watching his videos on YT. It's almost creepy the way he thinks, all I can do is nod and think "Yes, that's it. That's how I like to do it, too." :)

He could be my brother, far more than my real brother is.

In this interview he explained that the main reason is how Cubase can handle his giant template and is superior in MIDI editing.

It'd be best for Avid to focus on big budget audiovisual products. I've also tried ProTools before cause it's the default choice for studios but then I realized it's really a pain to make original music with it.
Reaper is a great alternative. It's cheap, fully customizable and they have a very active community.

I believe what you need is more RAM and maybe a fast SSD?

The problem is that some, or many, of your plugins introduce latency, that PDC compensates for, so the project latency gets bigger regardless of the ASIO buffer. When it comes to audio plugin latency, limiters, compressors, convolution based amps and plugins, and especially linear phase EQs have biggest latencies. You can circumvent the problem by turning off these when you want to record something new into the project, thus needing low latency. PDC will get adjusted accordingly. That's why some people use only zero-latency plugins while tracking. Reaper displays the latency of each plugin rather nicely down-left in the FX chain window.

    Hope it helps!

I have a SSD and 32 gigs on ram. I l also have a pro 40 fire wire and my CPU is 4790 K.
That being said I have tried almost everything except trying a different DAW.
I have also tried lower buffer 192 is what I like as my happy medium..
With Reaper I get around what you said SineWave 1.4 MS. great.

WORD. After I moved to making music with computers, I was obsessed with trying out new things. It took me a few years to understand this but I'm done with downloading every release. Started clean in 2018 and go by with as few plugins as possible. Instead of hunting for toys, I chose to study as much as I can about modular synthesis and creative mixing so when I need a sound that I hear in mind, I can create it myself regardless of it's complexities. I'm still in my 20s so it feels like an investment for my future:invision:

If someone is interested in installing all those shiny new toys, they can just install Windows-to-go on a spare hard drive (HDD's are cheap). it would be like a playground for warez without messing with your main music making system.
This is a solid advice. Some DAWs even have an options to bypass PDC when you start recording.

This is soooo important! Having a vision of what it should sound like, and knowing how to achieve it, even before starting a project. Huge time-saver. At least have the basics laid down within your head. You can't envision the whole song, of course, and "happy accidents" and experimentation can always be done later, with pleasure, knowing that your track is there as you've envisioned it.

    Word! :)

I liked more his edm music. He may have passion, but he is not a skilled composer (in the rank of J. Williams, J. Goldsmith etc).
