    Hi there,
I have a question guys. Maybe a dumb one but anyway, i m gettin mad so here it is. I leave my room for a while and leave the computer idle, running completely nothing. When i come back, i see that the fans are running like crazy, and when i move the mouse it stops working and becomes quiet again.
I did a fresh install several times to test what may be the reason and saw that this starts happening after i install ableton live 10 and several vsts like fabfilter plugins, uhe diva etc.
Before installing these it is all quiet. It never happens.
Is there a solution to get rid of this?
    I m on win 8.1 and my specs are asus g771j, i7 4720hq, 16gb ram, gtx960m

    thanks in advance

It may be because once your system go completely idle, the energy saving program stop too, so the fans go without control at their max speed.
Compare your fans speed when idle with it right after powering your computer. If it's the same, I'm right.
    I don't know windows 8 so I can't give a solution.
But Asus has a special energy saving program, if you don't have it installed, it may worth the try.

It is very weird that it happens only after you install Ableton Live and the plugins + when your systemgets idle. I know this may sound strange, but have you checked your system for viruses? Are all the plugins you installed from the sister site AZ? They should be clean. It seems that "something" is waiting for your OS to become idle and then starts to use the CPU fully. Could be a mining virus. [?]

Other possibility is the antivirus. Maybe MS Defender is doing its work? Or some of shitty MS services are set to run when the OS is idle. You could try disabling the MS Defender, for a start.

The exact same thing happens to my laptop (Win 8.1) and has happened as long as I can remember. As soon as I hit Ctrl-Shift-Esc to see what's going on I find that half the CPU is being used, then suddenly just drops back down to about 3% before I can see the culprit.
I think it's my antivirus program detecting that the system hasn't been used for x amount of time, then decides to randomly start scanning files in the background, or something. Because it thinks I'm away, it uses more CPU cycles and so the fan speeds up as a consequence. That's what I've been led to believe, anyhow.

I recently had a similar case when in W10 CPU would go up to 100% for no obvious reason, so the guy couldn't make his music. It turned out it was Windows Defender. This thing wasn't even able to detect when the system is being used ffs! So I just turned it off. There's nothing else you can do. Maybe reschedule it in Task Manager, but that wouldn't be a complete solution.

Must love systems that are not made for audio work.

Yes it is very strange, because win defender is already turned off. I just dl and install from the sister site. What i find even stranger is that it starts happening after i install the vst instruments.
As ''Vexed'' mentioned above, when i open the task manager it suddenly stops running and everything seems normal

Perhaps your task scheduler got modified during one of the installs?

Windows sufferers (me included) often have their scheduler kicking-in as soon as windows considers itself 'idle' - this thread may help you identify what's going on and how to fix it (if it's really getting you irate):
    https://superuser.com/questions/497500/disable-automatic-maintenance-in-windows-8/502049#502049

You'd be interested in adjusting the 'idle' options only - disabling the entire feature is probably not a good idea...

actually I think fraifikmushi is right, I have that occasionally too
try these TWO things, do them both and report back

    1) open the cover and blow out the cooling fans, processor, power supply etc
    2) come to my house and do mine too, its starting to do it again too :winker:

I had this on my internet machine and it was bit coin miner malware. It did run when Firefox with this site open but inactive. Kaperski found it, but it did let it run for a while. So mixed feelings about that.

Oh it was like that at Hawkwind's early concerts back in the Del Detmar days and Stacia got too close to the mob. I blame it on the microdots.

If you manage to get to the bottom of this @Aytac please let us know. I'm intrigued. It seems like we've ran out of ideas.

When it happens, open the task manager and see what processes use the CPU that much.

@SineWave when it happens, i open the task manager and it suddenly stops, the computer becomes really idle again :)
I see nothing suspicious. Firefox consumes most of the cpu power...

i will try some of them
