    Hi all,

I’ve been playing live with click tracks for a few years now and have started making click tracks for a new project I’m working on. The current setup is the standard left = FOH / right = Click track, but I would love to be able to have a stereo mix out front (stereo click a bonus not vital). Anyone know how I can do this? I mix my tracks in Logic Pro X

    Cheers,

    Aaron

If your soundcard has at least two stereo outs you can adress these in Logic separately (click to 1/2, everything else to 3/4). Should work.

If your soundcard has only one stereo out, you could use a Y-splitter cable/adapter to have the click on both sides.

You need 4 outputs, either get an interface that has those, or if you're on Mac you could use aggregate device and have the click come from the headphone output

Thanks all for helping out, Im using the standard spec sound card on the Macbook Pro 2018, I saw mention of aggregate devices elsewhere but didn't follow it up, how does that work?

Sorry i should've made that a bit clearer - i just meant having the click track in stereo rather than mono :)

Mono doesn‘t mean that it is only one channel (left or right). If you want to have your click on the left and right speaker, your click has to be mono. Mono means exactly the same audio on the left and right output.

In context of my question, my current setup is that the click comes out the right channel only as a mono track because my tracks use a simple left-right output. When I say stereo click, i mean i would like to have a 2-channel output for my click as well as a 2-channel output for the track to go out to FOH in gigs

If all you're using now is just the headphone output, you'll need to get an audio interface to get more outputs. The headphone output in the macbook is stereo, which means 2 channels. You could use a 2-channel interface and keep using the 2 channels of the macbook for 2 stereo channels, but I'd really encourage you to get an interface with 4 outputs. The best bang for the buck interface that I know of in this market is the Behringer UMC404.

Ive looked around and found the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (https://focusrite.com/usb-audio-interface/scarlett/scarlett-2i4) - just wanted to ensure this would suffice before making any purchases?

Thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it

This would do the job, though I'd go with something with 1/4" jack plugs instead of RCA. 1/4" cables are way easier to get 10 minutes before a gig when you've forgot to take them than RCA (cinch) to jack.

Edit: Also, the UMC404 I've mentioned has XLR outputs for your FOH so they don't have to use a di-box and you can go straight to any mixer. The FOH guys will appreciate.
