Well, maybe. I know that you're not the only one who thinks so, but this can be really complicated.

    - there are constant and proportional Qs. Although you can emulate this by constanlty changing the Q value according to the dB value, it's much more uncomfortable
    - the bands of different eqs don't have the same shape (even with the same Q setting) and this could be difficult to emulate
    - different eqs alter the phase differently and I don't think this can be emulated otherwise
    - with true graphic eqs (and I'm talking about the ones with 31 bands and small faders) you can make asymmetric curves very easily and this too is more uncomfortable with standard digital eqs
    - real and pure hardware compressors like opto, tube and tape compression don't have an attack, release, ratio or threshold parameter. This is done by the hardware itself and therefore it differs pretty much from model to model. Additionally these don't work linear and it would be again much more complicated to emulate this with other tools (although this could be more flexible).

I never tried to emulate analogue emus with pure digital plugins, so I can't tell you which one would be difficult to emulate. But if you want a suggestion, get some free emus and try if this works for you before you spend some money and get disappointed. Just google it, I'm sure you'll find some.

    I´m here now!
(204 DLL´s) but Its a young installation of the DAW...

    Hi!

I said enough is enough alittle while ago. I´m still learning and i´m not getting better to produce music because of 10TB of samples and software for several hundreds of thousand bucks. I use Ableton Live (bought normal but with a unofficial upgrade to suite) I´m acctually don´t know if I hate or like Ableton. But it was the DAW I started with and I´m not in the mode to start all over again at this newbiestate. I try to stay with the inbuillt effects instead of my hundred of thousands plugins. But I download them all anyway cos they are so good looking, like candy and like little games there you compete with knowledge of the plugin and wins when you have the coolest clearest optimazed sound. I´m still use Audacity for some BPM and loop works and I use MIXXX for some resampling (both freeware) I use Serum also payed. I love alot of other synths Rob Papen´s ect ect) who can deliver nearly a whole song only with a accord with the right preset but again, that´s pretty unsatisfaied and prob. do even worse for my progress. With Serum (with my little knowledge) you acctually must play the synth and finetune yourself even if Serum to has alot of cool presets ppl have done. I try to sample from CDs or from some unlistenable bars Im done myself. But in some projects I go "all in" with nearly 100% of samples. I love Omar Hakin´s drums for example. And I still DL every interesting samplepack/CD. Because I can and for the demos inside. When I feel totaly worthless and uninspired I do remixes of the Demos and compete with my self to get some interessting, good sounding minutes out of each demo.

Well that was my 5 swedish crowns about the use of to many plugins. I´m sorry if I get alill untopic here and there.

This is so true, plugins become like collecting baseball cards or something. When I watch producer masterclasses or w/e, they have maybe 15 plugins at the most. Most EDM producers use Sylenth1, Omnisphere, Serum, Kontakt, etc., and some mixing/mastering plugins, or just use the stock ones.

I think the best thing to do is to pick one set of plugins and learn them inside and out, and then maybe explore something else afterwards.
I think large sample libraries are more important though.

I think part of it comes from "If I have this plugin my tracks will be better," but I can guarantee most of us don't know the full capabilities of the ones we do have and spend more time collecting than producing lol

Lately I somewhat "hate" my tools a little more... I just want to make something like this
I think they had much hardware stuff but i love 60s stuff its kinda... simple. I mean... I want to make retro music, and the industry wants to tell me that I need as much plugins for that as the real tape machine costs... Its a little weird for me. The really good producers or Sound Engineers you see on youtube dont have shitload of plugins, too... I think more and more this many plugins are for middle aged midlife crisis dudes mostly, or warez addicts or both.

I bought the soundtoys bundle for black Friday and have yet to use it :deep_facepalm:. I'm like a squirrel gathering plugins and burying them for that "one day" I'll need them.

    It is called "capitalism".
You know ... a guy called Karl Marx told us about it 150 years ago, but almost no one understood him (most ppl are pretending)

Two sentences you need to understand :
    Market Saturation to raise
    Rate of Profit to fall

    Example ?
-Market saturation means "too many plugins" yes ... but ON THE MARKET.
Not only on our drives : there were ont the market place BEFORE getting on our drives.

-Rate of profit to fall means EVERY SINGLE COPY of EVERY single plugin is creating LESS AND LESS money for the developer.
Meaning they need to sell MORE of them, not pricier.

Those two points are linked, of course, because when market is SATURATED by plugins (as everything) ... you need to LOWER your rate of profit to sell them.

We are just at capitalism's end, because lowering and lowering "rate of profit" just mean "tendency to become FREE".
And so, ppl just stop working.
The ONLY mean to retain value is REAL HUMAN LABOR (another Marx big point). Virtual and automated tasks just add ZERO value.

And now, you understand WHY orchestral banks are expansive : lot of humans playing AND treating samples.
Thousand hours of HUMAN LABOR. No big machines, big algos : just PURE human work.

That's why orchestral banks are a very good example : even in this domain market saturation is raising.
And so ... rate of profit is lowering on each copy.

Some ppl tell devs : "WHY don't you lower prices on orchestral banks, to sell more copies ?"

Marx answer : it is NOT possible, because there is REAL PURE human work (thousand hours) and we are ALREADY at the bottom "rate of profit" on each copy. Due to Market Saturation in this domain.

I don't even speak about compressors and EQ ...

EVERY failure of our society is related to capitalism
    Happy New Year 2019 !
It is the year of the capitalism's end.

And may be humanity too ... we will see faster than expected if ppl are crazy enough to save capitalism and money ONCE AGAIN by making another World War (as usual).

PS : don't speak (as usual) about "communism", because what ppl call "communism" is just "state capitalism"' (socialism, if you prefer).
REAL communism is : no more banks, no more money, no more market, no more STATE
That's what Marx spoke about ... and that's what almost everyone didn't understood at all.

Too much or too little is a thing of perception. Someone who knows how and when to use plugins wont feel like he has too much, on the other hand someone who doesnt get anything done and is not familiar with what he has will panic and start threads like this one.

Well, I'm like a squirrel too :mates:

N.B. Under my avatar it says 'Producer', but 'Squirrel' would be more adequate.

I've 55 instrument VSTs and 48 effects installed and use them all, depending on the project. I don't use any of the instruments that came with Cubase 9.5 so they aren't installed, yet some of their effects work well so I also use them at times. I only keep plugins installed I use; however, I'd likely try many more if my wife would let me buy them. lol You only have too many if some are taking up hard drive space for little reason.

Yeah I understand why Orchestral Stuff is the moste expensive, because it makes kinda sense to me. There are al lot of people involved, you need a full orchestra for sampling purposes ect. I think capitalism hits the hardest with real instrument recordings.

Just brainstorming so dont take me too serious:
Humans invented the terms capitalism or communism, so maybe humans are the problem & not those terms or principles.
I think most problems of our time consists of people not acting out of holistic reasons.
Think what capitalism would look like when profit would be equated with bliss/happiness (which is emotional profit in a way, isnt it)?
We are very mental beings, at least in westerm hemisphere, we need more compassion & empathy, not more digital 1s & zeros.
Its not about choosing left or right, east or west , capitalism or communism, it is about beeing good for every1s sake, including oneself, or being rude just for one’s own profit, as basic as that.

Dunno if its really an indian proverb, but i like the simplicity and at the same time the tremendous impact on social relations if one apply that in life:[IMG]

If we really would think holistic we might get to the conclusion that there has never been a problem in the first place.

Somebody would have a monopoly on happiness?
