    Hello,

    If you watch this examples

    Schiller - Beatiful Day (Live)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHvbWOK98Ds

    and even Faithless (Live)

    These guys use combination of drum machines (sample drums) together with acoustic live drums, and it sounds just great.

    Does everyone know some tips, hints and techniques for doing this ? I search over interent but very small set of results I found. When I play with XLN Addictive drums and drum rack in Ableton just not sounding great like that.

    Maybe layering goes in way:

    * live acoustic: kick, snare
    * rhythm machine: hats etc...

    run each drum mic to a MIDI trigger, then you can trigger any sound you want. Blend that back with the sound of the actual drum.

    No, I have not acoustic live drums as instrument, I use software versions, XLN Addictive etc...

    My question was on some special tips on layering, anyone try or use something like that...

    If a make simple loop from drum machine samples (kick, snare, hh) and layer with accoustic drums also (kick, drum, snare) on same note position everythings overlap ofcourse.

    Maybe exist some hints of doing this or the best way of doing this.

    Try inverting the phase of one layer if the drums are clashing and use an EQ to carve out space for the layers like the crisp low end of drum machine kick with the high end "air" of an acoustic kick.
