I have the Equator D5 Studio Monitors, but because I live in europe I werent able to buy them with the right cables, actualy the original cables are useless to me...
So which ones should I buy? The monitors have a female 6,3 TRS cable (I think thats how you call it in english), my soundcard have different female outputs, better look it up here:

So which cables should I choose?
I first thought I should go with "the sssnake IPP1060" cables, but then I "pro snake TRS Audio Cable 1,5m", I think they are better? (Note: The sites are in german)...

I also have a second problem:
because of the fact that my soundcard have 2 outputs, one for the left site and one for the right, I need an adapter for my headphones and my normal HiFi system. will thiswork?

Sorry for asking this simple questions, but Im just fucking ungifted when it comes to hardware shit...

 

I guess the choice depends mostly on whether the monitors need "balanced" or "un-balanced" TRS (1/4" jack) cables

I think most use "balanced" but im not upto scratch on my cables knowledge lol.

Once you find out , just choose the best looking cables , good quality materials and build etc etc...

The price may certainly be a bit higher, but my advice will goes to the following wiring :




Your 'Equator D5 Monitor' with its 'XLR' female output




'XLR' male (to connect to the 'XLR' female output of your 'Equator D5 Monitor') - 'TRS' male (to connect to your 'E-MU' Soundcard outputs).


'Equator' 6' 1/4" TRS Male - Male XLR Cable

You can perhaps find some cheaper identical cables within other manufacturers, but the important is that the chosen cables are '6' 1/4" TRS Male - Male XLR Cables'.
However, think also that in some cases, the quality must be paid, thus some more Euros or $ spent may sometimes be worth on the long term... *yes*

 

1) the sssnake IPP1060 http://www.thomann.de/de/the_sssnake_sk361-6.htm is fully sufficent as the E-MU 0404 has only unbalanced outs.
2) the TPY 2003 BPP adapter is to split stereo 1/4" TRS into two mono 1/4" L/R TS signals (pointless) take something like this http://www.thomann.de/de/pro_snake_tpy_2003_pbb.htm it is called Mono 1/4" TS Male to Dual 1/4" TS Mono Female

 

Studio 555's advice on this topic is probably the best you'll get for this situation. I use that same style of cable and payed a pretty penny for them, but those suckers will probably outlive me.

After having paid a greater attention at the full specifications of your 'E-MU' Soundcard (what I hadn't done the first time !), I must to admit that 'HPF' is totally right ! *yes*

As your 'E-MU 0404 PCIe' doesn't have 'balanced' outputs ('+4dB' : the professional standard), but rather 'unbalanced' outputs solely ('-10dB'), my previous advice is then... pretty useless ! at least for your present configuration. Nevertheless, keep it in mind for the day that you'll perhaps get (or use) audio material with 'balanced' outputs... *yes*

By the way, I'm enough surprised that 'E-MU' don't provide both choices : '+4dB' & '-10dB' within their products even for low-end series (I mean 'low-end' by the price, not necessarily by the quality !).

Thank You, but as written in the first part of my comment, it could be a good choice for 'balanced' wiring, but not for 'unbalanced' wiring as is the case for this 'E-MU 0404 PCIe', that only provide 'unbalanced' outputs...

I'll go with the the "sssnake IPP1060" and the "pro snake TPY 2003 PBB" and will be (hopefully) able to make music again... Im pretty depressed and pissed of because I didnt make any valuable stuff the last weeks.

PS: you can split signals too using a patchbay in half-normal mode

 

Ehm.. Why I need that adapter? It splits a signal into two, but I need to make two signals into one stereo signal... For my headphones...

And is there any difference between the IPP1060and the IPP1030 besides the lenght?

 

where did you get the D5s? i ve been to get them for the past year but it's almost impossible to get them in europe. shipping is a joke.
how much did you pay all in all if you dont ming me asking?

I bought them at Thomann, an cyber-store for everywhere in europe, I think... At least I see a lot of flags on the start page *yes*
Compared to the price in the USA they are expensive in europe, I paid 439€... But they still belong to the best monitors in that price-range...
You could also buy them on ebay, there are some dealers in the UK who sell the D5, with shiping you'll have about the same price you will have with Thomann... Only if you live in the UK that could be less expensive.

okay pal if you know exactly what you wanna do and what you need or not dont bother, i have no clue what you try to achieve just gave you a hint how to duplicate your 0404 outs to have it two way - i assumed you already had your hifi/headphone setup installed on the 0404 - that's why i mentioned the TPY 2003 PBB adapters... get a basic knowledge on cables and plugs.

 

I asked for advise in a german forum about the adapters, and they said I need a Headphone amplifier...

I hate cables and adapters and hardware in general... I love software, everything works (most of the time)

 

add a dual mono 6,3mm male plugs to stereo 3,5mm fem jack adapter to the setup and you get the connection to phones and hifi, might be better to connect hifi and use its headphone amplifier.

 

Okay I finaly just called Thomann and the man on the telephone recommended a XLR to 6,3mm cable... I will just go with that one...

 

whatever pal, good theres tho-mann he saved your dayz with XLR it will sound way more pro hope the pins are golden an the cable twisted by hand in west germany for purrfect results. *yes* only way to go... und was mit den HörerKöpfern und der BiFi Anlage?

I dont see the point in buying a headphone amplifier, because 1. I will use it for headphones and my HiFi, and 2. Why the hell should I spend so much money on something I dont really need, and I would get in good quality with a monitor controller (which I will buy, hopefully someday )

Maybe I win the easter-competition from Thomann and Recording.de, who knows *yes* Then I would have about 95% of my software legal and a nice monitor-controller... Lets hope
