Invests 10k in the plugins, for the future.

Chooses the wrong tools for the genre.

Now that I'm skeptical, I'd like to know what the hell are vectorial volterra kernels? Some kind of corn? Electric corn? Actually I think Giancarlo borrowed that term from NASA. I saw a youtube video of Neil Armstrong saying "we passed through the Van Allen radiation belts safely by using vectorial volterra kernels... didn't we Buzz" Aldrin was drunk and took a swing at Neil and the press conference was cancelled, but not before Buzz shouted "we faked it all, it's a hoax people!!... we can't get to the moon... we couldn't find our way to Disneyworld."

I do mostly traditional composing and mixing. The other stuff is for my own enjoyment.

He tries to find Harmonic Distortion without any preamp engaged (preamps : off).
And then, when he sees no Harmonic Distortion, he says that "it is snake oil".

Well, he should at first know what he's doing, before saying anything.

My takeaway was that since the unit's hardware harmonic characteristics are in the preamp, the standalone pre's can be used to add special character to anything.

I think algo is better than acqua, nebula because of workflow, speed, cpu ram, hdd space and probably sound.
Sound! Yes, it is closer than algo emulations. But! Each instance is DA->AD conversion (each gear is sampled, so you convert your signal to analog and back to digital virtually), now imagine how many instances of these acquas, nebulas you use. In professional cases it happens once, or twice or so, once at mastering. I think it is enough to be always digitally with algo, it is not so far from nebula and acqua stuff, but cleaner without multiple conversions. Using nebula or acqua once or twice or even 3 times is enough. Fuse, BRA, Plugin Alliance, kush, sly fi, overloud, true iron etc are absolutely good. In any case, even nebula and acqua also gives aliasing... So it will not be if you use outboard gear. So, not so many advantages over algo stuff, but some disadvantages are there. And does it worth pc killing because of such analog nuances? And what is wrong with algo emulations? Why do you really need all these hardware warm disadvantanges to be emulated too close but DA/AD killed than algo? Who cares in this world?

Could be, but these old vintage units ooze from nonlinearities, warmth, etc, whats the point of having such a unit, otherwise i can use a stock "any daw" compressor/eq.

I agree that guy is a complete douche. He almost never read the manual before testing any product.

I enjoy his channel because I'm an extreme audio junky and can see the humor. If anyone is persuaded by his review then they probably need an actual mix engineer for their stuff.

I swear Giancarlo is the Beetlejuice of the audio engineering world. Say his or Acustica's name 3 times and he magically appears to defend his products on any forum.

Bottom line, the snake oil guy was right, (though very bias) the plug in is meant to copy the hardware to the closest (and more so than "algo" plugs), that's what acustica prides itself on. so if the eq has no distortion and the compressor has no distortion, then you're just getting a sampled preamp with an algo eq amd compressor. the hardware eq has harmonics with, or without a preamp. so they are sellthe full price of thee components, but only one (the preamp is) living up to the hype. Makes you wonder if thats is how they are getting all the core updates, by dumming down the product so it works more efficiently.

Lol, insulted much? You seem soft like those compressors you like. Personally I discovered the benefits of having harmonics separated, unlike an emu that gives less options.
..ps that vibe offending you is possibly the passion of Italians it seems, I'm half except Chicago grit style. And it doesn't seem like anyone cares if you buy in as a customer there, I'm sure wave's has a kiss ass marketing team more up your alley. Use what works for you.
