    Hello,
I need to record MIDI from a keyboard connected via USB cable straight to an Android tablet, no frills, just one button start / stop and a MIDi file to download later on a PC.

Beside some sophisticated daw like Audio Evolution, it seems there is not much choice in MIDI apps. Any suggestion?

Audio Evolution is great btw, it doubles as a very capable multitrack audio editor, but otherwise I'm sorry I don't know much about Android apps except Caustic and G-Stomper, both not made for recording longer linear tracks because their whole workflow is based on patterns of limited length.

Try the Audio Evolution "Trial" first, it's already quite capable and probably your best bet (not to mention editing individual notes and controller data, splitting/cutting/pasting tracks, change start/end points etc. as a bonus)

The price for the full version is a no-brainer considering how deep the app is, and you can import your own sound fonts to play back the recorded MIDI file with a great Piano sound or whatever you prefer.
There are stupid MIDI fie players that cost the same.

I thank you all, I'm checking the apps, I'll report.

Hello again, as I said, I report what I found.

I tested several apps, all mentioned + some other.

It appeared that Walk band recorded MIDI with a noticeable latency, not too high (for my purpose latency is not an issue), but unfortunately only notes, and no dynamics nor sustain, so basically it's useless.

All the other apps were not working or not suitable, even Audio evolution didn't recognize the MIDI keyboard.

The only one that I found working is n-Track. It recognized MIDI keyboard, notes, velocity, and sustain, and recorded flawlessly the sequence.

The only issue was glitching audio from tablet, but I don't care cause I only need MIDI data to be recorded.

I was wondering about MIDI USB support. I'll bet Audio Evolution is expecting MIDI input through an audio interface.

I suspect the same. But IMO it's too demanding for a portable daw "to go".

I agree if an audio interface is a requirement for playback. If it's only needed for tracking, it's not much more trouble than carrying a keyboard with you too. Or some microphones, etc.
My planned usage was scratchpad type purposes, never serious audio work.
