I think we need some detail on what the OP means by "full potentiality." We are going round in circles guessing what he meant and possibly not answering his question.

I think it's likely that by "full potentiality" he meant the internet's technical potentiality. The answer has to be no it hasn't, because there isn't any technology that has ever been invented that has stopped being developed. It will be developed further (and please do not use the word evolve because it means development by itself). Everybody anticipates that the technology will develop next, to connect our minds to the technology - we think all the commands instead of pressing buttons. I personally don't worry about AI because we humans are already AI, and if the fully AIs ever want a fight - bring it on :bleh:

    He said on the internet.

Anyone who complains about the internet is pathetic in my eyes. It's an amazing tool, and people can use that tool badly. Like brickwall limiters and the loudness wars. Don't like certain websites? don't go to them.

There's definitely a charm to a world without internet, but that ship has sailed, and the internet has so many perks that it outweighs the bad. I suppose the ones who complain about it are just too dumb to make use of its potential, or just forget to take into account everything that the internet has given them. As they say, you can lead the horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Everything? Ended? What a stupid and narrow minded belief. There are great things today and there will be great things in the future. Life is better than ever, but you are too blinded by nostalgia to see it.

Pathetic? Dumb? Ouch! Right back at ya slick.

I was aware of the concerns for the eventual co-opting of the nascent internet back in the 80's into a shopping mall and a dumbing down appliance like TV. Thanks to the internet, what is reality, facts and truth became indeterminate. Every village had its one or two idiots and were geographically contained. Now these idiots are able to spread their nonsense worldwide, collecting tens, hundreds of thousands of other idiots that in turn have an actual effect on society at large.

Yes, there are some benefits. There's music/guitar and general DIY/how to instructional videos. I frequent a couple of forums. I can d'l software updates. Of course there's porn, the perennial main motivator for all new technology these days, lol. That's pretty much my extent of use. Zero social media.

But you go ahead and keep that nose of yours plastered to your phone. ;-D

I don't think it's the era of the internet, we're in. It's the era of the digital transformation.
The internet is only a part of it, let's say the transport layer.

The digital transformation has just begun. And the speed will increase from year to year.

We just can't say what will be in 20 years, but that nothing will be the same as it is now. Every aspect of our lives (at least in the developed world) will be changed by this transformation.

Think about any profession. It will have totally changed in 20 years from now. If it's existing at all (there was another thread on this).

I'm quite sure of some things: People will implant phone, VR and internet recievers into their head. Most people will not leave their homes for work. Production will take place in the areas of the world we call undeveloped today.
Not everything will be better, but not everything will be worse.

People who try to escape the upcoming changes will be left behind.

I don't see it as a problem, for me it's an adventure.

Do I really need to make a list? we have cheaper better quality guitars (and audio gear in general - hurray realistic amp sims!), anyone can make great sounding recordings, you can get to audiences across the world without having to work through a record label, you can listen to underground artists from across the world without actually going there, you can read about the bad experiences others had with products so you know not to buy them, can easily learn to play a variety of songs from tabs/chords, learn pretty much anything you want from infinite tutorials/lectures/online courses/books/articles, can talk with people from all over the world without living in the middle of some metropolitan city, look at a huge amount of paintings and historical relics, cheaply travel to other countries, be able to communicate with their citizens in a language you all understand, and a million other things. There are so many little things about the modern world that make life much easier. In general there is less crime, less wars, less traffic accidents, less religion, and V.A.R.
Reality, facts and truth have always been indeterminate. You think a random villager in the middle ages, who couldn't read, had no written sources anyway, and heard most of his news at the local pub, knew better than you? you think a guy living in the 1920's, who got all his news from a very small selection of newspapers, knew better than you? the internet makes it much easier to get a variety of views and information from different sources.

But d'aww, you have a bunch of idiots talking shit at twitter (just as they talked shit at pubs), and a bunch of clickbait videos, and oh the horror, shopping websites! wow, how terrible :(

Anyway, I hardly ever use my phone for anything other than calls and text messages, and doesn't bother with social media at all. I'm also well aware of all the terrible shit that exists in the world and hate it very much, but have enough perspective to realize that terrible shit always existed, and the past was not so great. My life would not be nearly as fulfilling if I lived a few decades back.

I suspected you were a kid.

Is that what people did in the days of yore (pre broadband).... sittin' in the pub after burning a few witches, getting news from the bartender who got it from his mutton supplier who read it in one of the 'few' newspapers in existence, while some us played guitars powered by squirrel cages and actually DID shit? lol

Typical. Absolutely clueless about anything before the day you were born.

"My life would not be nearly as fulfilling if I lived a few decades back"

Enjoy your internet, exorbitant suicide rates and mental health issues then. Its what you know. Fulfilling life my ass

    Yes,you're right.
Bud the responsible is the capitalism, the cupidity of some humans, not art nor internet.
The revolution will come from citizens, not from internet or any new gadget!

Il y a des manifs dans le midi aussi. Mais bon c est pas le sujet. Ce serait pas mal de créer un thread Sur les gilets jaunes dans la section francophone.
