The title says it all really. Can anyone reccomend an ideal Q amount (if there is any) to cut unwanted frequencies and if perhaps suggest (again, if any) an EQ that does the job well...Thanks

To notch specific frequencies? The highest Q. Q stands for quality, and the higher that value is the narrower the filter gets.
ApQualizr2, Pro-Q2, Waves Q1-10, etc...

 

Yes I'm looking to cut frequencies, just having a little difficulty trying to find a q setting that helps. I'll admit I don't have the best ears once I've started boosting and sweeping for the boxiness and ringing undesirable frequencies give off

 

Boost. Turn up the Q. You will hear the ringing. Sweep and find the frequency. Attenuate.
Repeat until satisfied.

Or use in combination with a spectrum analyzer (to see the ringing/problematic frequencies).

What Baxter said. Plus, there are several eqs that let you hear only the band you're working on, Ableton's EQ-8 comes to mind.

yeah, most people don't. Sorry for that.

It's like this: boost the EQ at narrow BW like 0.3 q, sweep to the frequency that sounds the most offending to you, and then adjust the BW to what feels the best to your ears. Pull down the boost to zero, listen to it for a bit, and then pull down the EQ until it sounds the most pleasant. Then ease up a bit.
