Can I use track volume as a MIDI input?

    Hey all,

seeing how expensive MIDI breath-controllers are, I would like to try using my microphone as an alternative. I think with some experience it should be fairly easy to breathe and blow into the microphone and control the input volume.

Does anyone know if there is a way to transform the track volume (or input volume) in such a way that I can use it to control MIDI instruments? Ideally I would like to control things like the SWAM instruments or the intensity of effects.

    Thanks a lot :)

A more abstract question that is involved here is:

Can I use parameters to control other stuff? I know parameters can be influenced by LFOs and automated, but can I use those parameters (not the thing that controls them) to influence other parts of ableton? Basically linking the parameters (is parameters the right word?) to other parameters

Also I would be interested if someone knows other ways outside of ableton to achieve a "microphone-breath-controller". Maybe there is a workaround like with loop-be and Glove-Pie or something... :)

Not much going on in the forum lately, it seems? In case anyone is interested, I found a workaround with Blue Cat DP meter pro. But it is not effective. Trying to get the volume of the microphone input right is practically impossible...

Rather than quintuple post in a row, there's the "Edit " button?

Just read your first post. Try buying a MIDI expression pedal or a MIDI wind controller.
"Blowing" into a mic -> audio2MIDI CC will not be an option.

Maybe insert some sort of a gate inbetween? Just an idea, haven't experimented with that kinda thing.
But as Baxter pointed out - all this sounds kind of wrong ;)

There's prolly something in Max4Live (pitch tracker / MIDI receiver?) that will do this kinda thing? I'm not sure if this will do something liek that, if not? Seems most things are concerned w/ pitch, not volume. I think some of the drum stuff does translate velocity? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, like ya said, lots of issues. Just use a foot / breath controller?
