I'm working on an instrumental with 'Heavier 7 Strings' guitars and wondered if there's a technique any of you might know to make the 'ringing' sound caused by the amp to sound less harsh without destroying the sound completely. It's very overbearing...

Is that FL Slayer?

Anyway, sounds like some sort of simulated feedback.

(what is guitar feedback? the speaker being so loud / so close to the body of the guitar that strings starts to vibrate, creating a feedback loop (usually 2nd mode, an octave higher than the base sound).

 

It's heavier 7 strings...Any clue on how to make it less harsh?

 

is this some trolling? thats not real guitar imho. anyway, too much distortion

 

Lower the gain until that 'ringing' gone.

the ring was around 871 hz & 2.6khz when the feedback occurred .
multiband compress that shit with mixure of dynamic eq & EQs
also notice too much distortion not that its not fixable but yeah

Sorry, I should have read your post more carefully.

Like YFManagement said, you could try to EQ it out.

The obvious problem of course is that when you do, there's really nothing left in the samples even if you manage to take the feedback off. I assume you like the overall sound etc. of that library. I don't know if you can control the amount of gain with that library, but lowering the gain (amount of distortion) would also help at least a little.

What I would do is layer the sound with another library of even synth like the FL Slayer / reFX Slayer. EQ it until it sounds kinda similar. Bring the other sound up with volume automation just for the feedback parts and lower the volume of the Heavier 7 Strings library just for the tails of those long power chords.

 

as for distortion mixing for the sound you really like but hate the distortion a possible fix...
1. Multi-band compress with a Hi shelf (Fab-MB, C4, C6, F6 ...) etc
2. Solo the band to tweak the frequency range to only hear the distortion,
3. Unsolo band tweak Threshold with the "fastest attack & Medium to slow Rel"
4. Almost over compressor the frequency range ("Distortion")
5. Depends on which sound better , either create a send aux for distortion or use a distortion unit plugin with a mix knob

#5 Examples.
1. On The Send Aux First Add EQ & Hi Pass Filter Out The Parts you dont want to distort
2. Add Distortion
3. EQ Distortion
4. (Optional) Compress Distortion
5. Tweak levels to taste

Final Send them both to the same guitar Buss then there you go
