I have FL Studio and Ableton installed on the same machine. I have a Focusrite Sapphire interface and using Asio4All drivers.

FL is fine, sound comes through the interface and out the monitors. However, when I try to run Ableton its almost as if FL is hogging the audio drivers. Ableton starts and a message "the desired samplerate cannot be set" or something like that pops up.

Essentially I cannot use the ASIO settings that I use in FL, in Ableton.

Sorry im short on explicit detail here, Ive since uninstalled Ableton and just going off memory from a few months back.

    Help?

You can’t use one driver “ASIO” with two app’s in same time. You have to close FL Studio and then to run Ableton or any other app. I don’t know for ableton but it is possible to use FL Studio with Cubase with ReWire.

Im aware of that. Im not running them at the same time. Ive even ctrl+alt+del to check services and make sure its not "secretly" running.

Even if I boot up and run Ableton first this still happens.

Why, if I may be so bold, are You using ASIO4All with Your Focusrite Interface?

I think You would be best to go to the Focusrite site and DL the LATEST drivers for Your Sapphire.

It most cases, it is said to be best to use the specific driver for the interface.

Other than that, try going into Preferences and changing the Sample rate.

Chances are You have it set wrong which may explain the problem.

Best of luck Bro, We ALL know the heartache of "setting up"! It takes a while to get it ALL running smoothly. Major learning curve, I know I am still climbing!! :dancing:

Paus, have you consulted the ASIO4All and Ableton web sites?
ASIO4All has indeed helped me many times in the past, often giving me better performance than the ASIO drivers provided by the manufacturers. In fact, using the manufacturer's WDM driver or default windows driver (if available) plus ASIO4All is the first thing I try when audio latency or quality (stutter, noise glitches, crashes) isn't satisfactory.

Have you toyed around with Live's resample switch and sample rate settings?

Also, have a lokk at http://forums.m-audio.com/archive/index.php/t-1476.html.

In my experience ASIO4all is never as good as original up to date drivers for your card.

Secondly , go into your OS system audio control panel and make sure the default sample rate is set correctly or Live will continue to give you that message.

Im not using the Focusrite drivers because the performance is far worse than using the Asio4All drivers. Latency becomes really noticable (with FL anyway).
If I remember rightly, im ONLY able to use the Focusrite audio driver in Ableton, because FL is making Asio one inaccesable.

Ill look through that (massive!) thread and try a couple of the suggestions posted here.

Thanks everyone for your help and input.

I had (have) a Focusrite pro24 DSP, the next gen. Saffire, In live and FL, the Saffire Mix control drivers were excellent.

Unfortunately the firewire went out in it, and now doesnt work for shit in anything.

I wonder if your card is having issues. I just cant see ASIO4ALL drivers working better in any scenario.

the statistics are displayed in FL, latency and all that. Asio did better than the Focusrite.

I hear you but in my experience its unusable. Im rockin a very average laptop, maybe that has something to do with it but focusrite drivers just aint cuttin it for me.

    OFF ON A TANGENT TIME!!!

Okay, Just tried a new setup on a another laptop. Ableton is working with Asio4All perfectly. the usb ports are kinda fucked though, only one is working due to abuse by the previous owner. By fuckd I mean you have to have the usb plugged in at a very precise angle, theres a considerable amount of movement if I jiggle the cable around in the port.

So I have laptop -> usb hub with my APC40 , Focusrite interface and mouse connected. Functionally speaking everything is working like a charm, except now there is some really irritating, loud noise coming through the monitors. Can a damaged usb port be the cause of this noise?

Why cant things just be plain sailing :(

in my experience a USB port either works or doesnt....but sometimes if it doesnt get enough power (because you have some power saving features turned on for example) you may experience noises and other sorts of crackling..so that's the first thing to check and disable.
