When it comes to music production, what's the most important piece in your opinion. Processor or RAM?

Processor hands down. Especially when you're using DSP heavy software like synth plugins and effects.
RAM is also important though. The performance of your RAM will shine in tasks that use heavy sample libraries, i.e., Kontakt, Vienna Ensemble Pro, etc.

Definitely processor. I went with a Ryzen 1800x but am not thrilled with the performance. Any other AMD owners with optimization tips?

for libraries you will need ram, and for the rest you need processor,
for mixing & Mastering in the box good processor needs, and minimum 8gb ram,
but for composing you need both high,

Maybe you are using DAW that can't capitalize on 8 cores? Not many DAWs can, actually.

Does anyone know the impact that increasing open tasks and maxfiles can have? I just started experimenting on this myself after being less then impressed with what 8cores and 32gigs of ram have been doing lately. decided to finally dust off my vepro only to find a missing dongle when I actually need it... Also if you don't remove a soft license before a hard drive crash you lose it apparently, hoping for alternate options at this point..

edit: Err, realizing I think my issue might have been with some OS fixes and tuneups... Still curious about the maxfile/maxproc limit increase thing as well if anyone has some insight.
