As the title suggest should I get a single 32" ultrawide 4k monitor, or dual 24" 1080p display?
I use it mainly for Music production, Ableton, and some light video and graphic work.
Any suggestions, opinions and experiences with both scenarios are welcome.

I don't have enough room for dual ultrawide...

 

I have two 27" 1444p Monitors and for me that's the sweetspot at the moment

 

long time ago, I was using three 1280x1024 screens (basically equal to two 1080p screens) and I went for one 2560x1440 screen,
major reasons for my choice:
1) color consistency - for video and graphic work, I needed color-consistent workspace, which is not possible to achieve with multiple cheapy screens
2) monitor (speaker) layout symmetry - for audio workflow, I aim for as perfect triangle layout of monitors (speakers) as possible, which is impossible when using 2 screens, so I decided to go for just one bigger screen/workspace
the time I went for upgrade, 4K was nonexistent and 21:9 screens were crazy expensive (and they still are), for video workflow, I prefer 16:9 aspect ratio anyway, so it really comes down to what pixel density is comfortable for you to work with - for me it's 2560x1440 at 27" screen size - I did a brief calculation, and 4K at same physical pixel size would equal to roughly 42.5 inch screen which is too big and inconvenient to look at, so my only eventual upgrade would be something between 27 and 43 inch at higher than 2560x1440 resolution, which nowadays on market is 4K at 32 inch and its price is noticeably higher and now worth it yet for me

 

wow, how do you manage to feel comfortable turning your head that far side to side
maybe you sit further away than me. 32 may be a sweet-spot in my taste but i havent tested that yet

 

im not sure there is a radical difference other than the obvious resolution that depending how far you sit and taste really, with two monitors you gain ease to handle the windows, you dont have to adjust them manually all the time.

with one 32 4k you can place more stuff on the same screen even if it all gets smaller but since its a bigger monitor they dont get unreadably small

It is line 2560x1440 but with the double resolution


In my experience dual head is bad since you either look to the right or left but never just in front of. If multiple monitors that at least triper head.

 

using two monitors I hate it , I using two before and I tell you batter to pick up good one monitor

I moved from two 21" 1080s to a single 32" ultrawide 3440 X 1440 21/9. I have mixed feeling about it. Gaming is fantastic but that’s not really the point. I used to spend most of the time looking into 1 monitor slightly to one side due to limited space in room, this left my ear closer to one speaker which was annoying, but the single 32" has me nice and centred with no annoying double bezel.
However, I miss having Cubase’s mixer in a separate window, yes, I have the lower zone now, but to route the channel to anything other than the master out I must go into another window (hoping they address that minor grip in v10)
For Ableton and the uses you describe I would go for the 4K or a 21/9 ultrawide.

Sometimes i want to switch my 39" LED TV to pc as a monitor. Thru hdmi. No need for 4k and super hd shit. In mix no one hear your screen, as said Chris Airwindows. Bigger screen is cool, but not pixel density and 5D image.. HQ GUI is not always HQ DSP. GUI is about workflow, visual beautifulness and marketing, but not the sound quality.

I think it is better to make your workflow better, more comfortable, easier and faster, but not enjoying GUI picture quality, colours and pixels.
Do you see how my track well recorded, produced, mixed and mastered with plugins drawn by pro GUI designers and photoshop masters? So, 2-3 monitors. If you are super engineer/songwriter/producer/sounddesigner, so maybe more than 3 is better) but you can mess up everything in hundreds of screens...

But for film making, video and photo/graphic production, games it is better to find a good high quality monitor, big and 4K. With good screen.

Music is music. Picture is picture. Photo is photo. Film is film.

That's luxury that is.

 

I'd use 2 x 24" (1920x1200) monitors with ultra-thin bezels. I'm old school

1 X 49 inch 4K monitor works great.
This is the same pixel size as a normal 24 inch HD monitor but it allows the equivalent of exactly 4 HD monitors.
It is absolutely incredible for mixing and I sit about 18 inches from the screen.

I have a ultrawide and it works amazing.

 

I have a single 34" 2560x1440 but am aiming for a 4K 40" soon. I prefer single monitors for less head turning and you can divide up the big ones if you want with no added bezels...

 

I'd go for the 32" ultrawide 4k monitor option, not a fan of dual setups. I use them and triple setups all day at work.

I'm using an ultrawide for music production but only 1080p. Does for me
Use a 55" 4k TV for the gaming pc.
