What is so bad about that? There is a clear difference in the high frequencies between the real amp and the sims here and some of the sims sound closer to the real amp than others. Hence, the comparison is quite helpful, even if you're just looking for the most realistic sim sound.

Metaller, do you consider the Roland Cube 20X as better than the Misha Mansoor plugin? I remember that you lauded the Roland amp as superior to software sims.

Here's a little tip, try some Nebula preamps with your favorite amp sims. I used Gold2 with Helix Native, and it sounded really good. It gave the tone more body which sounded better in the mix. You could also experimment with the True Iron plugin.

There's literally hundreds of amp modelling stuff nowadays: Plugins, multi-Fx units, profilers, etc. All the sonic possibilities and convenience that you could ever want. You can tweak sag, choose tubes, change poweramps, adjust bias, or even resistor values (Revalver) to shape your tone, and even change the tolex of your virtual amp (Bias).

Then you have thousands of impulse responses to try to mix and match with your amp simulator to carve up the holy grail of tones.

I just plug into my ENGL Sovereign and play. :bleh:

What type of tolex do you recommend for an atmospheric post-rock kind of sound?

Yewah.. where is Kemper.. and after many many years its so fun to take theese hard core guitarists taht will never ever play on any other thing than their own rig.. and god forbidden play on anything that simulates their rig.. still 50% of the times they choose wrong after playing both blinded.. some even prefer the Kemper thinking its the real rig.. so sometime even me prefer the blowup doll or even just my hand before the real thing..

My neighbors don't like real amps, in fact they positively hate them, especially after 8pm LOL :guitarhero:

Also, I always capture the dry signal for everything that I record, so it can always be reamped later with digital or analogue equipment :winker:

Same with midi drums, they are useful when composing, but they can easily be replaced later on if required. And even if I use Superior Drummer in a track, I wil get someone to play a Roland V-Drum kit live for the vibe and human feel.

2018 is much better than 1978 to be a home studio musician, and a professional studio is always an option if you need to scale upwards, but for demos and proof of concept I am golden

PS don't forget about all the Nebula tricks too haha

I have never played a Kemper, but even without I know it's the best. I once was doing my own business with youtube on playing random music when this video popped up:

The moment I heard the clean sound I thought: "Hey, that sounds EXACTLY like my amp". I opened the video and there it was. I wasn't even listening to anything connected to the amp. Just a random Youtube playlist. The feel is another story, but Kemper is regarded for its great feel so there is that.

The problem with modellers is not their sound (they all sound great to me), but the amount of time you spend tinkering with them instead of playing the damn guitar. With a real amp is more like "Okay, I got these 3 channels. Let's make them all sound great, if they don't, this is not my amp". Eliminating the option anxiety makes me focus more on the music itself. I play +4h long shows covering from 60's music to modern pop and rock/heavy classics. I could use a damn sound for each of the shit ton of songs we play, but I get along with 4 channels just fine. It's so liberating! We have pickup selectors and knobs in the guitar as well, y'now?

The bass player of the two bands I'm in is the same guy, but in the "main band" he goes direct with a pedal through in-ears. Do you have any idea how much it SUCKS to be on stage without the ground RUMBLING? That's not rock&roll. I've been bugging him about that ever since and I won't stop until he buys an Ampeg head, lol.

You can't go wrong with a blue sparkle tolex

Yes, Kazrog is good, but choosing the right IR is hard because the IRs it comes with are not good at all.

I have done all of these tweaks like loading ownhammer IR. Yes, they do not sound bad in the mix! but..
The demo I posted is pure heavy high gain metal sound. so why obvious if question? :dunno: I ask again, have you seen the demo?
I am not biased toward any of them. I just look for sound!

I do not care about the interface, I look for the sound.
From your perspective, all of the ones that I don't like sound great! So...!

BTW, I do not use presets! The amp sound quality gets obvious, when you hit the first note! All of the tweaks help, but they can't change the essense of the amp.

For Bias, I can help you with presets if you want. You should edit the files in the document folder.

Misha is just great. Yes it is harsh! This is the sound you will get from a real high gain amp.
It sounds very real, I just decided to not carry my amp, and use that instead. The only amp so far that you can get all the harmonics, precense, chugs, and real finger slide sound!

And you are so right. "never pay money for those overpriced amp modelers (Axe Fx, Kemper, ...)"

it is so expensive that gets out of scope. But yes, It sounds good.

However, if you have that much money get a real deal. If someday I had that much money, I will get a real one.

Unfortunately, I have moved from my place, and I left my amp there
:( Everytime, I played something with ampsim, then I played my amp, the Roland was better.

For Misha, which was released recently, I can't compare that with live playing. But, I will go into my recorded tracks, and I will give you a notice :winker:
