    Hi,

Here is a track i'm stuck on at the moment. 'Define Chaos?'

    http://soundcloud.com/mark-stothard/define-chaos

I haven't cleaned up the mix yet, so it still sounds a litle hazy.

I need help from the 2 minute mark. I don't know what else to put here, as to me it gets a little boring.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Mark.

Hello Mark, i had a listen and it sounds fine to me.
So far the mix is okay! The strings sound very realistic and
have enough dynamic. Cool track for a movie!

The Severed Land is also good!

I think its fine after 2:00 actually.. but the acoustic stereo guitar, that comes in at beginning.. perhaps has too much volume on the delays..like my head is being rattled (headphones) and might also be a bit hot in the higher frequencies.

    Hello Mark,

it sounds generally fine to me too, great music for a movie. But I am not a big friend of reverb and effects that must not have to be. Many ppl use effects to agglutinate / stick together what naturally never would be able to stick together. So I allways try to go to the root and try to define for myself what is goin wrong in the mix first. The first thing I recognize in your mix is that you use a lot of reverb, long sustain and additional effects I can not "lay my fingers on" what type of effect in use. Use effects as much as required and as little as possible. Effects never will (really) do the job for you. They can only help you on the way to perfection. Keep this in mind ..

Sorry for my bad english, this is my first post inhere and I am from germany, so we only once learned oxford english ... and this has been a loooong time ago ;-)

    Hi Mark,
I like the blend of the sounds I think they set together nicely...and I like all the little motives within the parts.
But I think you can push it further... maybe some of the plucked sounds should be sweetened a bit

Kookaaboo: Thank you so much for the nice comments.

Onereason: Will look into the accoustic guitar. Thank you.

BoeserAbdul: Really appreciate you taking the time to write a very constructive message, and i understand what you are saying about the reverb. The accoustic guitar seems to be causing the problem. I will revisit it soon to amend. Thank you very much.

Rolma: Thank you very much also. I will look into the guitar.

Mark, only one suggestion, listen to the track on a headphones. You'll immediately notice what you should change.

I think BoeserAbdul made an interesting comment. I see his point clearly, as I am myself tend to go for a wall of sound, using sustained notes and quite busy mixes, however I tend to use little to no delay and small amounts of reverb to keep my mixes clean.

Thank you all for taking the time to advise on some of the issues with this track.

I've revisted it and changed quite a few things including the intro and ending.

It's the top track that can be found here: http://www.reverbnation.com/markstothard

    Thanks again

    Mark.
