Is good spew. Has a John Foxx/Louis Gordon vibe, and that's never a bad thing.

Cheers Judge. I just checked out John Foxx and Louis Gordon and reckon that there is a John Foxx vibe there. Funny thing is, is that I never heard of the guy until you mentioned it in your post. It just goes to show how we as Humans can share similar musical traits with other people without ever hearing any of their tracks!

Yep, it's bizarre how that happens. And at the very least, now I know both of you have a good sound. :shalom:

Nice of you to say that. You know I have tons of tunes/songs in various styles and have just recently started sharing them.
I am 50 years old and have always been shy of letting anyone hear them. I'm glad that I have started to do that even if some tunes don't cut the mustard at least I'm letting them out there instead of keeping them to myself. Cheers again Judge.

Mate, you've heard my stuff, and I don't even sing without my machine helper.
It's always good to share, I reckon. Sure the risk is you'll get someone be an arse about it, but whether mustard cutters or not, it's all art, and there's no such thing as bad art.

And 50, you young pup. I'm just a litter ahead of you

:) Yip, right on Judge. I reckon that theres a lot of us oldies here on this platform. I would have guessed that you were of a similar age because of your type of music. I reckon that we could do with more actual songs and decent instrumentals here rather than EDM. Nothing against EDM when it's done well but for us older folk a bit of something familiar is good. I heard a track from "Seedz" earlier that he posted to me personally and it was fantastic! It was sort of psychedelic and sounded ELOish. I hope he posts the song as he has a great voice and the song was top notch.
I reckon that a lot of folk on this sight have some great stuff in their arsonal but can't bring themselves to share it possibly for fear of ridicule or not thinking that it is good enough! I would love to hear music/songs from other people from this sight. It just doesn't seem to happen unfortunately. Cheers mate

Agree, and more people sharing must be the aim for sites like these.
If you can't share it here, where can you?

Yeah exactly! This is a great place to start at least. The thing I find about this sight is that it has it's share of controvery and there's no holding back when it comes to opinions. It can get pretty hairy at times and that might scare some people off. It's just a guess but it might stop some folks from sharing maybe fearing judgement of some kind.

Hello DieM, I like your song and as I am quite new here, I am happy to see other musicians sharing their work and getting insights, ideas and motivation for my own songs.
I get it, that you just wrote and recorded the song and yet would I like to share two things, which came to my mind listening to your song.

    1. I find the reverb relation between your vocals and the instruments not well fitting to each other. Because the synth floats nicely wide and open your vocals sound, compared to the instruments, thin and a bit boxy. I think its not so much an EQ problem, but really "just" the direct comparison of these two parts. Maybe you could try to use the same reverb for both, the synth and the vocals, and bring the vocals a bit further by using less of the same reverb?

Edit: Basically, I want to say that both parts sounding each by themselves fine, together they sound too much being in different rooms.

    2. If you plan to work more on your song, I could imagine adding one or two layers would work well. I was kinda expecting some drums to start at 0:52, when you finished singing the longer phrase. I actually think this might really sound great as the moment seems perfect to me. Some background harmonies or just another layer of instruments (guitar, synth, ...) might also work well for the 2nd part of your song.

I hope you dont mind my words, after all I am interested and thought it might help you a bit.

    All the best,
    Karl

takes a bit of a thick skin tho eh Judge ? You have had trolls take pot shots at your tracks a few times ?

or either as you mentioned, sharing things privately with folks you have some sort of connection with, and who
will probably give you some support, and constructive criticism, or are just generally curious as to what you're into

Pretty much the same with me, I have only shared some of my stuff with a very few people here, and I am pretty
much in the same "litter" as you gents... so perhaps there is a more mature approach to evaluating each others efforts,
or so one would hope ! :winker:

    Hi Karlplatz,
Your remarks are very welcome but on this occasion this song was recorded as I wrote it. I just added a synth with drums and made a quick recording. It was a pure demo. I havent yet took it apart and tried to make it into a full song yet. I don't even know if I will spend any time on this song to be honest but cheers for your input. Very much appreciated.

I reckon you're right on the button there Herr.
When you actually write lyrics it's a lot more of a personal thing and you leave yourself more open.
I feel that sharing with a select few is a good way to go. It does take some balls to actually share openly.
Maybe I'll get to hear some of your stuff at some point!

I think they were more pot shots at me rather than the music. It certainly looked that way.
I've said I'm okay if someone doesn't like something I post, that's fine, I don't like everything I hear either.

The problem here is pretty obvious.
2nd verse. The last two syllables are overcompressed.

Thanks for that. I will do that. I'll change the instrumentation and add harmonies along with a fresh main vocal and a chorus.
