As the title states really. With both installable versions and NO INSTALL versions of many plugins, what are the benefits of the NO INSTALL versions? Also, are there any cons to installing them, e.g. does it limit use in any way or cause lags etc?

 

lol you dont install the NO INSTALL versions,

 

benefits would be just drag and drop. "NO INSTALL" procedure required..
installing one by one (how freeloading) plugin, in pack of "30" individual plugins (not bundle).. can be mind-numbing..

 

You first:
- Decompress to one folder, tweak a couple of things (tipically VST folders and your username in Windows)

After that, benefits:
- you install or uninstall in split seconds executing a .bat/.cmd batch command line file. therefore no real installation.
- you can place the VST wherever you want. specially useful for heavy VSTs, sample based VSTis
- almost always the presets/data you save also end in the no install folder

Cons:
- hard at the beginning if you're not an advanced Windows user (once you get the gist is easy)
- R2R extreme followers will complain and create another hate thread about barbarian russian repackagers

I'm not as knowledgeable as others, but as far as I know, the people who make these NO INSTALL versions are taking R2R's releases and repackaging them. R2R's cracks won't install unless your hosts file blocks their site(s), which these repackers don't want, so they made a way to repack them and get around that with these command line installs that just creates the content folders for you put in the correct places. Personally, I will respect the wishes of the people actually cracking the stuff.

 

That's not true, at least for most of them. Also, lots of them are from other groups. The sources are included, sometimes the original source complete (the original group release). Some of them are even registered to R2R.com and they let you change it with the R2R keygen.

 

You don't install. Even when you reinstall windows.

 

Actually, I have heard that, if the No Install release doesn't cite a source or claim it as their own (or, even if they do claim it as their own,) a lot of the them (not all,) tend to be a another teams hijacked crack. This comes from some of the people/teams that have discovered their tags that they put in the programs that they crack to prevent people hijacking their work. Xupito is correct in that it isn't solely R2R's cracks that get kyped and that isn't the only reason for the blocked sites. All of that is just from my understanding of many posts and declarations on various sites over the years, though.
Basically I don't fuck with No Installs because I have found a couple hidden "gifts" in a couple of mine some while back (the exception being that I do use Kontakt portable, which is similar to a No Install.)
Briefly, Xupito, I'm not sure what you mean by being able to place your plugins/VST's anywhere. Unless it is a straight no-keygen-crack, like, say, V.R, you have the options to set them up wherever you want....unless you mean the actual internal app/program data files that some of the more complex ones have.

 

You're right, I was talking about that. All the plugin folders/files are stored in the same root folder of your choice thanks to the symlink thing. No exceptions. There are very few that put a couple files in the windows/system32 folder, even then you can install or uninstall with the same goodies.
