A week ago I bought a Line 6 Spider V 30 for use as a practice amp, I liked the unit but it failed miserably when connecting to a PC (Win 7) via USB, initially it worked but after ten minutes editing the screen on the unit, froze and that was that. I did all the tests that Line 6 recommended, eventually it was returned to the dealers. Next I gave up on Line 6 and decided to buy a Boss Katana 50, arrived today and all worked fine, but once again, the editor didn't fully recognize the unit, and eventually the unit died on me, once again its back to the dealer. now could it be me??? or are these units basically unreliable, or do I have a killer PC

Did the products show Win 7 on their compatibility list ? If so.. there should be no problem..
then again.. you bought a Line 6 Spider V ( and the 30 probably didn't make it any less of a disaster..)
the Boss is likely in the same league ampwise...

perhaps you should check out some reviews before attempting the next purchase :chilling:

  4. Hey, jefft, is it a matter of needing quiet? If not, I recommend a little Vox AC4TV with a mic and your peddles. It beats the heck outta those modeling amps 'sfar as I can tell. Can be had cheap.

Here Durr , FYI I read most reviews on these amps, including the one you linked to and they fit the bill for what I wanted. A decent practice amp that was versatile.Your link to that a##ehole I listened, he's a bigoted illiterate yank, and I for one wouldn't give him the time of day

Thanks for that, at least it's a positive post. I'm really looking for a versatile practise amp, that I don't have to have wires and stomp boxes, but can give a good range of tones, both the spider and the Katana, fit that bill. But are proving to be unreliable

Cheers for that, I have loads of computer based simulations which are all excellent, I want something that can be moved around the house, I find having to use the computer is a distraction,

    Just get a laptop!

    Nahh, just kiddig :)

When I saw the last minute of the video where this guy is stomping into the amp I must think of my brother-in-law John back some 10 years.
He's quite hmm - explosive - sometimes and his two boy's left a toy garage where it shouldn't be.
John was really angry and stomped into the toy garage with all his anger and guess what! There was an axis all the way from bottom to top of the plastic toy garage almost 30 centimeters long sticking in John's foot all through the shoe. I needed to bring him to the hospital with the toy garage "mounted" to his foot.

Lower end modeling budget practice/bar gig amp? I like the vox vt series. I have an older one for 8 years now and this amp sounds pretty good. Better than a spider which is not hard to achive...

ok jokes aside.. the Roland Micro Cube.. really sounds quite good for a small modeling amp,
I still have mine since 10+ years, price point : $150 , or you could find a deal on one used..

I actually had one of the Vox's as well.. but disposed of it in a trade.. couldn't recommend

sorry snarly.. have to set you straight on Glenn Fricker.. he may be big..
but bigoted he is not, neither is he a "Yank" , he's Canadian A
( though he does like us "yanks", and with good reason, of course )

if you don't want to listen to a guy who built and runs his own studio, has tried out
literally tons of gear, and is pretty well respected for the breadth of his gear experience and recording knowledge ,
    then hey, ignore away

Herr Durr, Firstly, Glen Fricker.... is a joke, I assumed he was American but that sums it up.. Canadian, ....tell me anything good that came out of Canada apart from logs. Loud... maybe that's probably why he appeals to Americans. As for knowledgeble thats debatable. Now down to the serious business, Ive had several practice amps including the Roland micro cube, Fender Mustang3, line 6 amplifi, line 6 Spider, Blackstar, Boss Katana, out of these two I really liked, The Spider V30 and the Katana 50, both proved to be unreliable. the others apart from the Roland Cube were very boxy sounding. Now if you look at my original post you will see that my question wasnt about the sound of the units as thats a personal thing, it was to do with the reliabilty of them.

sounds like you learned a lesson about Line 6 gear... :dunno:, not trying to be "cheeky" but shouldn't it be fairly
obvious it's pretty crap gear..and not worth one of your "PC" 's USB ports anyway...

if you are talking reliability..then the Micro Cube would be it... it keeps on chugging.. so really not sure what more
you are after... don't listen to Glenn..and stop spending your money on TOTAL CRAP gear !!
( that was my Glenn impression in case you didn't notice... )

Lol..Herr Durr, now were on friendly terms, lets talk!
my main employment was designing and building MIDI/computer based studios, since the eighties, with the old Atari and Cubase,Initially Dr T's if you remember back that far. I'm now retired and have little intrest in the recording business or computers. I own a decent little computer based studio, running Studio One and Omnisphere 2,BFD 2 with an Akai 261 as a controller and a focusrite 40 as the interface, into that I run a Line 6 pod HD black bean, and a digitech 360 for guitars plus a host of programmes from our sister site.
What I want is a decent but not loud nor heavy but reliable and versatile, that I can use in an empy bedroom, purely for practise, the two that I mentioned (Spider and Kantana) fit the bill but proved to be unreliable. When I evaluate the sound of a guitar amp, I only look/listen to it from a recording perspective and not a live one, so the more versatility i.e. control over the effects (especially Fuzz)/delays/ reverbs is a must, I have also gone down the path of a single amp with several pedals, and found this frustrating regarding noise leads power supplies and not having a place to save the settings, apart from taking a photo . Anway what part of the world are you at? they dont have humour past Ireland, and your name implies a German name, see https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hurr durr

well well.. in the interest of being at least slightly original, I changed the spelling.. I know it's not as flashy as
"Rocky Balboa" or "Jimmy Saville" , or even "Gary Glitter", but it'll do for a backwater music forum.. :hillbilly:

and as to my locale, well we can't all be from the UK or even Ireland now can we ?
( at least after 6 or 7 generations can't claim to anyways )

Didn't exactly come from the urban dictionary.. but more an obnoxious sort, spawned... you guessed it. in the good ol' US of A , Boston to be precise... enjoy..

Lol. Guess I have a low opinion for any country that elects a guy like Trump, we have Theresa May so I cant really complain, sorry to offend. On the name side, I had a company named Snoggin the Dog, back in the eighties, and I created a domain name called "std" nowadays it means something different, so were both in the same boat as it were.
