Wow, that's a freaking crazy ass story. The irony being the victim is Polish, which makes the story even more interesting. It makes for a very solid case about what is posted and said online can definitely be used against you, in fucked up ways, sometimes many years later.

You dont even need to say anything online... If someone decides they just dont like your face, they can ruin your reputation by uploading utter lies... and getting them off the internet is near impossible... Scary shite...

Those sites like "she's a Homewrecker" that make money on anger with unverified data should not exist, or should legally responsible for what they accept to publish.

    Their lawyer says:
"She’s a Homewrecker lawyer David Gingras scoffed at that. “The fact that authors can’t remove their own posts is intended to reduce the effectiveness of threats such as: ‘Take this down or I’ll sue your ass into bankruptcy,’” said Gingras by email. “Although the site’s policy is not to allow authors to remove their own posts as a matter of course, the site will still consider removal requests from an author on a case-by-case basis....it really just depends on the circumstances. The site will also usually remove content that a court has found to be false."

He forgot to mention, while we can have visits based on hate a earn money with it we will go on, does not matter if we destroy peoples life. And US law allow us to do that.

In practice, because of these permissive laws, it's much better not to use the same name and account profile on social media to write personal comments and opinions than the one you use for your professional life.

Searching for her name in Google, one of the links at first page, still tell this false story on another "vulture" website ...

Beside the fact that these two women have some serious issues, the scarriest thing is probably that this kind of behavior is far from isolated.

Social media was 1st used as a weapon during the 2016 US elections and it never stopped to be used as such (cf the daily use of Twitter by trump for example).

Thank you for posting this @mrpsanter. Therefore, everyone should consider the forums and social media sites as public places. When you talk to people there, you should talk to them as you would talk to them if you met them in person.

Gone are the days of fucking around in forums. It's not 1998 any more. Still, one could probably get away with talking shit on IRC, speaking of '98... But always remember that your IP can always be traced, dynamic or not.

Even if the data IS verified it shouldn't be legal to make money with any kind of public pillories.
It leads to kangaroo court and other medieval manners.

Where I live, even sentenced criminals have the right of their privacy to be protected. Not even the publication of the sentence contains the real name of the criminal.
And this is ok for me, because no one's life should be destroyed publicly. The spiral of hatred will never end this way and we'll get a modern form of vendetta.

In this case GIZMODO is not better in any way than those other pillory sites because they use the real name of the woman (and the reader doesn't need this information to understand the case) and they make money out of it.

    Exactly.

Wasn't it in India that a mob recently killed two guys that were (falsely) accused on some Whatsap group to kidnap children?

  11. That is true.

  12. Even if this story was true, it wouldn't even be rated as a "lightly mild" hot sauce with regard to the severity of which you will eventually come to see. Somebody was quoted as saying something to the effect of, this individual said something on Facebook to the wrong person. Now this person whoever they're, best of luck to them. But this is a "the people" issue. They're followers. They are insecure to the point that they'd go against their own values to join the group. And even if this person did something like sleep around, they just got caught. The only difference between that person and the hypocrite who cheats joining the witch hunt with these so-called "good" people.

So if on the grand scale of things they realize the punishment isn't fitting the crime, they appear insane. The next logical step is to push that person over the edge by any means necessary, ruin their lives, dig up their dirt and feel like the good guys ignoring all of the shit they've done in their past. And a person can only be pushed so far before they bite back. I mean, that's just survival instinct. But it's a group vs an individual. The pack wins but always loses I guess.

Do you think it was made up by Gizmodo?
As stated by @Olymoon you can still find false information related to this woman in Google.

just another cautionary tale, to use as much inaccurate, and diversionary info as possible about yourself online
a thick veneer of manufactured anonymity is always the way to go, for me at least.. don't make it easy for a
griefer troll.. and I have seen examples right here of those who have had issues because of being a bit too "revealing"

there was, at least, a little poetic justice , not that it really helps the victim much in this case...

sure enough... and alas, better to be exposed for something you actually did, than something that never happened !

In the US, criminal convictions, and even civil actions become a matter public record, by default..
a small bit of luck for this offender, she did not have her mugshot posted, yet

As an oldster I have never seen the point of social media. I share my information with my friends and family via e-mail exclusively. of course this isn't private as we know, but the watchers will hopefully not be posting any of my conversations. Can anyone tell me the advantages? Is it so that unpopular people can claim they have a 100 friends when they really mean that a 100 people vaguely connected to me can see my details and messages?

Bingo.. it's a fake popularity contest..and people obsess over it..
hence FAKEBOOK.. as I call it

and for the "addicted" it can ultimately result in depression
which appears to be a documented phenomenon among the recent snowflakes
who grew up feeding on the narcissism of social media...

I don't see why this thread (and @mrpsanter ) should get removed and punished for an off topic antisemitic and racist comment by one person.
This comment should just be moderated. Personaly I've reported it, like I always do with racist garbage, we will see what happens.

Exactly. People who give attributes to other people according to their religions or origins, thus making it an essence, are called racists. You demonstrated very clearly why you should be called what you are, a racist. Bravo.

Again, when someone call Germans 'nazis', or ISIS as 'islamic state' it doesn't creat problems. Why?
It's pretty obvious that I don't think that all Jews are "bad people". It's just stupid, don't you think? So, if you think that I had to point out that "73.34513434% of Jews are making bad things", isn't it strange? When some one call ISIS as 'islamic state' it's pretty clear that they don't mean 2 billion people. Stop this hysteria around 'racism'. If you'll use this word on every corner, it'll lose its power. It seems you're lucky bc you never met a real racists.
