This guy has a good amount of "beats" out there... it sounds like it's mostly stuff from old vinyls or something with a hip hop beat over em basically... if you enjoy listening to this, I am curious if you are definite about my assertions... are these song samples from records you are aware of? If so what songs or records?..

on one album of his, there is definitely a track with a sample from a rendition of "Misty"

    All in all, sounds Muzak-ish

PS: I love how good hip hop beats are totally jacked and dragging... quality J Dilla style

Its all over the place, heard some Jobim, Bacharach some older movie stuff, some Moricone. Reminds me bit of Kid Koala. Even Stroboscopica. (if anyone knows about that! Rare Italian 50' & 60's movie music comps. Very good!)
    Nice.

Boring: it is always the same ordinary beat layered on a 4 bars loop. If you like recycled music try to google “coldcut” ,They where really brilliant on this genre. (super90’s)

i here ya... Ive never really been into a lot of it, but i of course like drums, and mixing with that 60's 70's type corny tv vibe music is amazing.

Best of all, i finally learned that bossa nova is a style of music i always wanted to find more of, and now... that Antonio Carlos Jobim guyi s a goldmine.

wow that sounds nothing like jinsang... i have to admit, it reminds me of my grandma saying that it's all the same thing. ANyhow, for my personal tastes, coldcut sucks... furthermore, i never like all the scratching bulllshit, although, i recognize the skill of scratch battles etc.

which part of jinsang would you say reminded you of Rota... cuz that guy has a large group of work which seems purely classical or opera even.

jinsang is a beast. look into foreign movies, cartoons, etc. drum samples r very simple/.just eq'd to sound lofi, try using d16 devastator or decimort on certain chords/rhodes/pianos,etc. or a tremolo/vibrate effect. izotpe has that vinyl sound generator plugin as well. or u can look for vinyl cracking sounds. easy to find. arp/harp sounds. u can sample a single shot n make amelody, dont quantize.to have that natural sound.

I like a lot of mellow Hip Hop with Soul/Jazz cuts, but I get bored to tears by sampled Hip Hop that is just kyping a chunk of a song and looping it. I have heard some of my favorite producers do this, as I sit back and go "Really? That's all you could do with that?" I usually find the track--even if it's just an mp3 or some low-grade format--and I chop the hell out of it and give the cuts an actual rhythm or make them as percussive as the drums--kind of like Khrysis or 9th Wonder does with a lot of their tracks--so as to make it my own.
On that note, this is not Dilla style for many reasons, but the main reason that I'm not giving it a nod as even similar to his style is the fact that Dilla orchestrated his stuff or warped it until it became his own, unique take on how the original arrangement could be repurposed, he didn't just add some drums over the top of a loop and call it a day (it may sound like he did that on some tracks, but I guarantee that if you listen to the songs that the samples came from, they are recognizable due to the overall tone, but that's about where the similarity ends.) When I listen to Hip Hop that is strictly sample-based, I find that the tracks that I really feel, not just enjoying them on a technical level, usually come from multiple different songs or albums so it ends uo sounding very little like the original compositions.
So, I am going to have to agree that this is "muzak;" it's the type of stuff that you would hear on some kids "Hip Hop music to study to" video on YouTube....and that's not a compliment. I'm not bashing you listening to it and enjoying it--I listen to music that most would consider crap, but I still enjoy for various reasons--I'm just saying that if you're into Hip Hop and you like Dilla's stuff, go dissect it and find out what was happening behind the scenes. There's a reason he's in the National Museum of African-American History and Culture at the Smithsonian.
