Thanks Phloopy. The longest I've ever seen ... 5 hours + :woot:

It's not exactly a review, it's a first Look, so the guy is testing a lot of things. But can be very interesting anyway.

    I like Daniel James reviews.

he's a good composer, and also you can see him at work (or at least what he's doing) which is better than than reviews where guys are just playing the presets or stating what's already advertised

he's very "new school", meaning he pins notes in the event window more than playing them, and he can be very quick and effective this way.

in another genre but with the same efficiency I've started watching a few tutorials from Adam Ellis doing Trance, and he works the same way, very fast ( I'm more old school where I like to play even if I'm technically limited )

note that he's also well equiped, because the way he loads presets and change mics : paul thomson was doing the same in his last reviews, and notified that he was working with a new iMacPro (from what I know, last time I checked James had a mac pro loaded with RAM )

It might called a "First Look" ..... but take the tour and Im sure you´ll call it much than a "First look"!

This "review" has totally pissed off Spitfire Audio .... and even Hans Zimmer

Isn't this the guy who was mad because he wasn't getting the Hanz Zimmer sound of 20 years ago, but instead is getting the sound Hanz Zimmer wants for today?

I kind of remember this just being him ranting about the software not being the sound he wanted it to have.

Yes my observation was not very relevant any way. The title is less important than the content

He posted on Facebook a few weeks ago, not long after this video, saying that the VI Control forums had banned him from saying anything positive or negative about Spitfire on their forums as a result of this video.

Сensorship? F_ck them. Who do they think they are? SF lost their minds. I hope someone will share all their instruments. No one should survive censorship attempts.

The guy has a point. Moar than one, in fact. And it's all fair comment, seems quite even-handed. Even fanboyish and enthusiastic, at times. Kinda speaks my mind, rly, a lot of the time. A lot of Spitfire stuff doesn't have nearly enough RR and velocity layers. It's just (size of lib) throw moar mics at it! Kinda thing. And the new engine is borked in lots of ways, most of which he mentions. I think most people (I know I did) expected something like Metropolis Ark. With maybe that clichéd borked HZ gliss bullshit (that made Batman so annoying to listen to =) as one artic! He is also SOOO right about the stupid volume slider. And having no basic artics for the 60x Cellos et al. Defeats the point of the lib, rly. Ditto artic consistency. It should prolly be called Olafur Arnolds MAX or something. But nobody would buy it if it was called that, I guess.

Anyway, the lib doesn't interest me at all. Which is pretty rare.

I think he's a bit wrong blaming the GUI / graphic designers for some of the borked interface ideas. I would (and it's basic design ethos to) group similar stuff together (aka proximity). It is obvious that the brief came from Spitfire, sometimes you only have the control of giving the client what they want.

Seems like you have actually had a serious look at this review famouslut and I totally agree - he has a lot of good and fair points regarding the library and SF´s new player.

Yeah, I did watch quite a lot, skipped thru some parts. I agree (and found funny) a lot of his points about noise (especially when he says "this guy has a loader sniff than me and I've got a wicked cold!" or something =). I mean, it's just one opinion, rly. And he comes from the right place, if you ask me. I can't understand why he'd be banned. They should employ him (and me and you and... =) as beta testers imho. The Spitfire hype is looking a bit like Spectrasonics hype nowadays. Oh well, at least their new solo strings look good...

No harm done Olymoon...... a 5 hour "first look/review" can end up as something completely different - and I think its the case here!:guru::yes::wink:

Basically, it's their land, their rules, I guess.

I remember Spectrasonics removing each and every negative comments from their facebook page after the release of Keyscape.

It's understandable in the sense of you wouldn't approve someone "disrespecting you" in your own house :)

The owner of Realitone (another Kontakt lib dev) actually bought VI - Control forum about a year ago. So what do you expect when a major dev like Spitfire Audio gets in troubles with their latest release because of Daniel James?

Spitfire Audio is in many ways an arrogant company that publishes a few really good libraries and a lot of shite libraries that sell very well so they can finance their entire business -just MHO.

    He is funny.
"when I pushed a key I wanted Jack Sparrow to smack me in the ****** , not be taken into the mist"
    hilarious narration.

"....they don't want this obscure dialogue scene..."
    lol too funny.

He's honest and speaks his truths. Good on him. Unfortunately, honesty these days is the new Politically incorrect.
