@Xupito Cheers for popping in mate. Muchas gracias for the support. Let me tell a cool story, at least for me I used to go to Aris' Greco-Roman wrestling for 2 years in 1981-1982, we worked out in the same gym with the Aris basketball team behind the Aris football stadium in Thessaloniki. You wouldn't believe the work out Galis did. Weight lifting 150 kilos on the hands on the bench, 250 kilos on the feet. He would practice 2500 shots everyday easily on the small basketball practice field behind the gym. We would play for fun basketball with 2 wrestlers, 3 basketball players on each team. Believe me when Galis caught the ball with two hands it was impossible to grab it from his hands without doing anything inapropriatte even for the strongest heavy weight wrestlers and it was almost impossible to outsmart him too. He was the first of his team to come to the gym and the last to leave always. I 've never seen such a devoted professional and amazing talent in all my life really. He was our Greek version of Jordan indeed, the only other player who would "fly" under the basket. And of course he made a shitload of money but helped a lot of people too. Ahhh i am happy i have those memories and i love sharing my little fun story. Be well mate
I love your story )) . That's some really impressive memories man, specially for a basket lover. If it were me I would be showing off with them every time I could lol. Indeed he was clearly the Greek Jordan, the Greek Petrovic if you like. I remember seeing him trying a medium range jumper in front of Sabonis himself, he did kind of a circular rectifier to avoid the block before touching the floor and nailed it. You can't do that without being very athletic, talent aside of course.
Thank you Xupito. Let me just add, seeing Galis work out, watching his athlete ethic if you like, was really inspiring for me. I was a bit unlucky with sports. I always loved basketball but until i was about 15 i was only 1.70m tall, so it was no basketball for me, only for fun. So i took wrestling instead because it was my second best favorite. But when i was beginning to become better in wrestling in the beginning of the second year i was there, i started rapidly gaining height and the coach noticed that. So he told me in order for me to go to competitive wrestling, i had to work out with really hard weight lifting to grow even bigger muscles, this though would stop my growth in height. Mind you nobody there would take any chemical prosthetics for rapid muscle growth etc, the moral was very strict, our best athletes back then were just doing specific food diets and serious working out, nothing else. So i had to decide what it would be stay short and become a more serious wrestler or stop wrestling and be taller. I stopped wrestling and i became 1.85.5 in a year's time lol. Didn't regret leaving wrestling, but by the time i left wrestling i was already almost 17, not really a good age to start taking basketball. I was already playing music with bands anyway so i focused all my energy there but i will never forget those times, i feel them inside like it was just yesterday . Thank you for time mate Cheers
I can relate to that because I've played a lot of basket but I was always short (1.72 grown-up), so only for fun. I do did (lol) jump a lot but of course no way I could have competed. That good ethic doesn't work on the NBA by the way... you know what i mean. Yeah, specially the shooting mechanics, ball and foot work. Look at the bright side, you were already playing music being a strong tall young man. I'm sure there are no regrets ;)
