I was wondering if anyone knows how to get this specific guitar sound, starting at 45 sec.
A simple D# single string is played in that first bar (i think) but it sounds like it's really really disorted.

I've been looking all over the net. Some say it's a Hollow or Semi Hollow body.
Others say it's a telecaster.
Some say it's this Fuzz pedal, others say yeah but multiple instances. What Amp is used is also a mystery.

I tried a Strat with some death metal pedal from NI, it was okay but no sigar.
Haven't tried a Hollow body yet. Only pedals and amps so far.

Notice, the guitar is heavily distorted but not over-sustained. The note played does decrease in volume over time.
Can you help me?

 

It sure sounds like a lot of fuzz effect was applied. Really a lot. But I'm not an expert with this effect.

 

I´m really close. Hollow Body with P-Grid Fuzz Octaver preset, plus some tweaking. Some heavy eq, mid cuts.

I know that sound, the guitar player is plugged directly into the board and overloading the input. Also the guitar has no comp on it, doesn't need it as the signal can't and won't get louder than it is while pinning the needle of the meter. I used to get that exact sound by jacking into an old reel to reel tape player and straight onto tape, which when loud enough, saturates the tape for further rounding of the transient's signal, but in this case I believe it was routed to another channel without going too far into the red. This sounds like 60's psychedelia, and the most likely way they achieved the sound. There is no real sustain because the guitar signal is not propped up by a preamp before it hits the board. Just a straight wire from the guitar into the board, no pedal required.

Also, it probably is a Telecaster. That's Soloman Feldthouse holding one, unless it was David Lindley playing the lead.

I would try just a smidgeon of bitcrusher to further break up the sound and add a smattering of grittiness.

 

No pressure, but I'm really curious to see how it works when you finally make it

Haven't tried the tape saturation yet, but i'll give you a full report and audio example if you like.

Ofcourse i don't own a Studer tapemachine, or any other for that matter.
So an emulation will have to do. Probably, Waves, Slate, Cd-soundmaster or McDsp.
I have a uad card, but not their tape plugs. Too expensive for my taste (or wallet)

Sounds a bit cleaner then the vid above. But does have that 60ies motown or black exploitation movie grit.

I'm really curious what the song in question is. I've got the (US) Kaleidoscope's first two albums and they are a great and truly unique band. Also curious how to achieve that 60's punk/psych/buzz-saw sound.

This is actually neither the more well known USA or UK Kaleidoscope and new to me. Bit proggy but the guitar sound @ 45 seconds is the classic fuzz-face tone I love and struggle to get with plug-ins.

 

Mhhh. I'd try driving a clipper really hard at the end of the guitar chain.
