"The dopamine reward systems in artists' brains don't react much to money."
Most artists work for exceptionally low pay. Despite the precarious nature of the art economy, they carry on, ostensibly sacrificing monetary compensation for the loftier reward of creative freedom. But what if some artists are actually—physiologically—hardwired not to care about money?

    That's what this article says:
    https://news.artnet.com/art-world/w...search-suggests-it-could-be-hardwired-1310147

    The result:
“Collectively, our results indicate the existence of distinct neural traits in the dopaminergic reward system of artists, who are less inclined to react to the acceptance of monetary rewards,” the researchers write.

sometimes i make music, should i consider myself an artist?
i think as long as there is at least one person that enjoys what i do, that is enough payment for me.

of course i'm talking about the hobby-side of things. i think it's very hard to be an artist + make what you like + make money off of it. and even if you manage to do it, trends change so at one point you're going to be forced to do something you don't like. but that's ok i guess it's a job at that point and you use your artistic skills to do that.

cheers have a good weekend you all

All my life thinking I'm poor because I'm lazier than a groundhog and it turns out it's because I'm an artist. Damn! :deep_facepalm:

Edited: don't worry for me guys, I'm currently working on my low self-esteem issues with a blonde German therapist. She's called Voll Damm or something like that...

  12. Although a too small a sample size that cannot be extrapolated to any reveal significant trends of behavior, just about every artist I have ever been associated with, if given the choice, with would rather freely create, and that the reward of the journey itself is the payday. Being monetarily compensated or exchanging goods for services is the icing on the cake.
