Why aren't "we" able to make any artistic music?

it means composing regardless of any outcome
"we" totally are able to do that, whoever "we" are

it partially relates to what culture we're from, and how culture defines "art", "music", and "artistic"
yes, a japanese can make music like an american, that's why white-face can play reggae, black dude can play sitar and make good spaghetti bolognese ...

from an intellectual standpoint, it's totally possible just by following the (composing / musical) rules & techniques
from a scientific standpoint : your DNA contains unconscious memories that goes back (hundred of) thousands of years back, so, I think even with the right meditation practice, it's hard to avoid the cultural influence ( it's a polite way to say "no" -_- )

all in all, it will reside in how conscious you manage to become, what choices you made for the sake of emancipation, and the final decision regarding each of your creation : does it meet your expectations or not.

    stop asking questions.

Quite right! Don't engage the xylophonists in small talk. It only encourages them.

And the title of the piece in the vidclip? It's called 'Buffoon'.

    I say:
    Culture>Composition>Market

    You say:
    Market>Composition>Culture

What should I do? Just accept my fate that I'm always wrong.:bleh:

You can have the best scores in the world and treat them badly without injecting any culture into it but don't expect the listeners would welcome it. Music without culture doesn't get much chance to be heard and appreciated.:dunno:

You know, the audiences are seeking the musical culture in the music than the composition itself. For most of them, the composition is in the second place.

So, we're back once again with a problem with definitions. It has to be true that definitions belong to us as individuals. The minute you try to include others, or even an 'us' or an entire society, it is no longer a definition - it becomes a belief system, and these pick up a lot of heavy baggage like rules, ethics, motrals and so on. In the end, you are either a believer or not. Your definition is lost. it no longer means much to you as an individual, and it becomes something to relate to as part of a belief-system-collective. Keep your definitions to yourself. Make your definitions work for you only. Happy world.

This question seems to imply that "artistic" mean "creation" only, so from this point of view, sure, nothing is really created, and everything is made because something else was made before, and so the only artistic creation is the nature.

But for me, and probably lot of other people, "artistic", or being an artist is not about "creating" something (not matter if it's music, paint, photo, scultpture or any other form of art), but about "expressing" something. Therefore every piece of art (or music in this case) express by someone is artistic, whether you like it or not.

If that art doesn't touch you or make you feel something, that doesn't mean it's not artistic, it just mean you don't feel it. But that's the principe of feeling and sensibility, we all have some, but we don't share all the same, but still, we can find common feeling with people from a completely different culture, and feel like a stranger with someone living just next door.

Culture isn't created inside the DAW or in the real world by only the instrumental virtuosity.

Musical culture has various ingredients that the History, Politics, Economy, Military power, etc. give shape to it. You can not disregard all of those elements and make sth and anticipate a successful musicianship and getting embraced by your fans.:dunno:
