Use what you are comfortable with.
DAW is the least important thing in producing music. I do not know why everybody thinks and talk about this. You can make music with every DAW. no matter what.
Instrument playing or programming technique, music theory, and knowledge, mix and master knowledge are much important than the same software with just a little difference in GUI. These make you Pro, not the DAW.

It's a bit like if you were asking us to choose between two girls which one you should mary...
I could answer but ultimately my answer is not relevant because I simply don't know you and this is of course a personal taste.

Normally I would go with the "what's comfortable" side of this, but if one were to always follow that logic (no pun intended,) all of the time, I'd still be using FL Studio 7 (or Fruity Loops, as it were.) There is a place you get to where you need to decide what has what you need now, as well as what you will need as you progress as a musician/producer. Remember the learning curve that you had with the DAW that you're comfortable with? It will take time before shortcuts, event chains and other such things become second nature, but if moving to a new DAW is going to improve your workflow, creativity, etc., even if it may be a while before you are fluent in it, it may be the right choice.
I'm not trying to hock Studio One, but I made the move to that as my primary (for damn-near everything,) DAW, and my recording sessions are going *far smoother, the general mixing process took very little time for me to wrap my head around, and overall, even though it has been a while now and I haven't gotten to the point of second-nature fluency, I am happy with how intuitive it is to get around.
At the end of the day, I think the most important thing is if a DAW is setup so that it reflects the way your brain works, just don't confuse a learning curveespecially ( a steep one,) as a sign that a DAW isn't right for you. Selah.

While I agree that theory, instrument skills, mixing prowess, all things that I am no stranger to, are important, they are only applicable if you are inspired to create. I have used DAWs that were so counterproductive that I simply didn't want to fight the goddamn thing to make it do what I wanted it to do....or I couldn't get down ideas as fast as I wanted and after trying to, say, jot down a handful of recording before I lose that "it" moment, I would find myself trying to navigate around an interface clearly designed by a drunken three-yr-old. All the knowledge and skills in the world mean jack and shit if you find yourself sitting, frustrated, in front of a DAW that is actively hindering you.

Really? This is *far from accurate. Yes, DAWs are all converging on a singular point and very soon, I believe, they will all be almost identical with difference in only a few major areas and, of course, in general workflow which, yes, includes the GUI, but to say that the only difference in DAWs currently is aesthetics is blatantly false. If you want to state that as an opinion, that's fine, but there is enough ignorance and confusion in the music community, especially with a million people doing tutorials and articles on shit they know nothing about, without you misleading people into thinking that your opinion is a fact. Too subtle? I hope not.

I hear you. But if you had been married to both girls and he was confident in you, your advice would still give him more info than he has now... and to be able to give him a better answer you could ask him questions about what his likes and duslikes are to be able to help him in the best way possible. I have not used Cubase so I can’t help him. If you have used both I think you might be able to give him a better answer?

I am using SO for about four years and last time I played with Cubase was more than 15 years ago so no, I don't think that I am qualified to give a fair advice as I am obviously not neutral.

If you are not inspired, and confused about what you are going to do, and can't get down your ideas, the DAW is not the problem. Your knowledge is the problem.

This is exactly why I say go with the software you know and you are comfortable with. Recording audio or midi in all of DAWs is as easy as arming and pressing record. Programming in piano roll is as easy as choosing the notes in the piano roll!!

however, I do not program midi, because I can not convey my feeling with the robotic quantized midi. In addition time duration of notes is not appropriate in programming, as writing time duration instead of playing is like painting a picture with just straight lines...( instead of using all the smooth curves and feeling)

I would rather not talk about complicated, scattered FL studio, that it did not support for piano roll or audio recording not so much time ago... The DAW is the least important, but it should pass the minimum requirement for producing...:dunno: By the way, name a rock or metal band, recording with FL...!
As a musician used Cubase and Studio one and created at least an album with each of them, I would say they are very much the same.

A predictably inane response, as was:

I knew I smelled a purist. The thing is, yes, I make Hip Hop/Soul beats, but I also have been playing drums, guitar and bass for god-knows how long, so I'm not some midi-drawing dope who has never played/recorded what you apparently consider to be real music. I have played metal in studio sessions as well as live (real metal: Necrophagist/Arch Enemy/Black Dhalia Murder/Exodus type stuff, not some 5 Finger Death Punch crap,) and I can speak from experience when I say that it is *not just as easy as punching arming and pressing record.
At the end of the day, Studio One is as intuitive as any DAW, but if you like Cubase, great; I don't really care, but don't hand me this "...your knowledge is the problem" garbage. DAWs do matter when it comes to creating music, even if you're a Mesa Boogie/Jackson metalhead (that's actually my setup.) And, as much as it would be fun to have some dick-waving-contest over music theory, complete with a breakdown of Harmonic Minor scales at 190bpm and the Neo-Classical stylings of Jason Becker vs. Jeff Loomis, I don't think it's really necessary. And? No, I can't name a rock or metal band who uses FL....I can't name anyone who I like in any genre of music who uses FL (okay, 9th Wonder, but that's it,) I just used it as an example of why people should take a while to get to know a new DAW before writing it off because of a learning curve.
Also, metaller, I will feel as though I didn't convey my meaning properly (again, apparently,) if you don't dislike this post as well.

You can download the demo from official website and try for workflow, comfortable, and especially stability...
For me so far, Cubase has good stability and SO4 has good workflow...

I hope you find the best suit on you...

Agreed. Honestly, Studio One is the only DAW I have used that hasn't crashed, seized or just gotten weird on me while testing out buggy beta plugins made by small companies/individuals. Not that that is a real selling point for most people, but it's worth noting. :)

You can't compare Studio One 4 with Cubase Elements 9.5. That's simply not fair.
Compare Studio One 4 with Cubase Pro 9.5. In that case Cubase (still) wins. ;)

Metal-head gets angry for no reason: more news at 11. Seriously dude, dick waving will not help convince anyone that your preferences are best.

To address the original question, there is no good answer. Anything the internet tells you is trumped by personal experience and expectations. Music isn't a science. Download both, play around with them, and go from there.

Granted, it was slightly off topic....though not as per our lovely tete a tete, but at the end of the day, he's right. Seriously, when was the last time you were at a Metal show? We *are a "passionate" bunch, to say the least. :headbang:
(The articles didn't really hit home for me, metaller. If those articles are correct, I should have a lot lower blood pressure than I do.)

First, I was mocking the ridiculously tiresome "dick waving" that goes on between Metalheads. Trust me, I am a purist as well (I just try and keep it at a tolerable level,) but the whole "....your knowledge is the problem," bit was born of the superiority complex most Metalheads have. And if you think that I'm stereotyping, well, stereotypes are just that because they are usually pretty damn close to the truth; Stand On That.
Also, I don't care if anyone thinks my preferences are "best" or not, I was making my case. As I mentioned, I don't much care which one he chooses, [see: "....but if you like Cubase, great, I don't care...."] I just thought I'd give my side of it.

Sorry about all of the off-topic bullshit, Alexander Foxx. I recommend down-voting us all. :hahaha:
