As far as vulnerabilities, I don't know specifics. Whenever you install warez, or a warez'd Win OS, all bets are off. However, all OSs will always have vulnerabilities, it's just that you have to also think about potential malicious code in the warez'd OSs. You could say that Win 7 may be safer because it's older and has been supported longer. Maybe another more experienced sys-admin-type user could chime in.

    Don't get caught!!

Let alone the full version, Adobe Acrobat. Must be the all-time undisputed king of bloatjunkshitware. It's just incredible. I use a portable version (made by barbarian anti-R2R russian repackagers -> sorry, the habits acquired reading this forum lol) and even that version leaves a couple of registry entries, though without real impact on the system.

I, personally, don't like Win10 for all of the reasons that I am sure people have mentioned here, "updates" that fuck with your setup, the plugin issues and, not to be forgotten, the obnoxious-ass boot loop and tedious task of file recovery from errors and bugs.
I am still running Win7Ult. despite the fact that Microsoft has said that they are dropping support for Win7, I believe, sometime this year. I honestly don't really see the lack of support as a huge issue, seeing as I used Win2000ME until Win7 came out and it worked just fine. (Anyone remember the catastrope that was Vista? Guh!!) Unfortunately, Microsoft has also said that Win10 will be their "last, major" OS and that it will all be updates from here on out. (We'll see if that's the truth, but for now, it seems to be.)
Someone mentioned how people act like Win8 "doesn't exist." Simply put, there is a reason for that. Win8 was initially intended as an OS built specifically for touchpads, and then got reassigned at the last minute as a PC OS. Microsoft has even said that it's intended use is for touchoads, so that should be explanation enough as to why people skip over it....or just search "Why Windows 8 sucks." (One of my uber-computer-tech friends showed me an episode of CSI: Miami and told me "I know you hate this show, but you see all of these cool tricks that they are using in the room, swiping items screen to screen across the room from his touchpad table? Microsoft cited this as what Win8 was *supposed to be able to do, but fell short. So, Win8 was a good idea, at best." :hahaha:)
So, I'm happy with Win7Ult. and I have no problems with it whatsoever with any of the newest plugins, DAWs, etc., and if it ain't broke....
That being said, if you do go with Win10, the only way that you are going to be satisfied with it is, as people mentioned, if you optimize it, which really isn't that difficult to do.
If you're anything like me, you'll be stoked to get this OS crap solved as soon as possible so you can go back to making music.
    Good luck.

I didn't know this problem. Does it happen when you upgrade and don't do a fresh install by any chance?

I agree, that's not a problem, like it's not a problem the end of support of VST2. For a few years, that is.
Steps are being taken by Microsoft but like with previous "good" versions it will take a while.

Well, if you have a powerful computer, you only have the problem of the spyware and the updates.
For an old computer like mine the LTSB version is really good.

I'm a geek so I took the optimization approach. Not that easy for me, BTW. Also, I prefer to have the most used version (Pro). I've never made a complete track but at least I went back to download and installing all kind of warez :disco:

That was the first problem I heard people joking/complaining about with Win10, and, ironically, was the first problem I ran into shortly after initial install. I don't know if they ever solved it (I assume that they have,) but, very basically explained, the problem led to files being "deleted" after the can't-recover-from-reboot going into a loop. I later found out (just in time,) that the OS was actually just unable to find the files, so it assumed that they were deleted. My uber-tech buddy sat down with it for about an hour or so and managed to recover basically everything, which wasn't a lot, but it was a couple days worth of musical progress in various tracks, so that was a relief.
I didn't use Win10 for more than a few more weeks and I got sick of having to haunt tech forums to troubleshoot all the issues. I didn't really have any reason to switch to Win10, but I thought I'd give it a shot.
Win7Ult. is still golden and doesn't bother me, and that's what I like, an OS that sits back and does its job quietly.
Oh yeah, and as for the end of VST2's, as far as I understand, Steinberg and others have said that they aren't making so that you can't use VST2's anymore, they are just gearing all their advancements and towards VST3's since their widespread integration really is long overdue. It's not like all of your VST2's are going to go up in a ball of blue flames or anything, which is what I have found some people preaching on multiple threads that I've come across.

I did a fresh install of Windows 10 LTSB on a new SSD. It took me just 12 minutes.
The only problem i found, and didn't found a solution yet was that it got me stuck on a 1024x768 screen resolution. (i have an LG Flatron E2350)
Found lots of people complaining about this, tried all the tricks, none of them worked for me.
My video card is a GT 730 2gb.

The curious thing is that i've connected the CPU to the LG TV through HDMI, and it did let me work on 1920x1080.

So, evidently, is a matter of incompatibility with the Monitor, which i really don't understand. The same monitor is the one i'm using while i'm typing this on my old computer, with the onboard video, and is working in 1920x1080 just fine. The same cable was used in both cases.

    I'm really confused!

My buddy had the same issue which drove him fucking nuts because it would show the wrong resolution and cut off parts of his gaming screen. I know for a while he just used his TV for a monitor, but I *believe he resolved the issue. I'll pester him and post up if he can help.

Thanks, any help would be very welcome!

Also, in my Monitor (LG Flatron E2350) my BIOS is showing like this....

But in the TV, it works fine....!

    This is just nuts!

Wow, I didn't know that English dialect :P

Now seriously, that could be some kind of lack of support for modern character sets (ANSI is the oldest, UTF-8/16).
Or a bug, or the two things.

Yep, but clearly your monitor compatibility is enough. Bug from the Win10 driver developers, not your monitor.
That's why the possibility of the driver developers being too optimistic about your monitor features is possible. Specially if you're upgrading to a newer OS.
Modern TVs, on the other hand, must have much more features on the compatibility side: modern subtitles (BluRay, mkv videos played directly from a plugged flash USB drive), even internet browsing.

I just tried to dumbest thing: plug the video card to the monitor using the VGA output instead of HDMI, and now the BIOS shows ok, and the screen resolution too.
So, i would say something is not right on the video card end, maybe the HDMI port is damaged or something. I talked with the store and they will replace the video card, so i will try that later.
Thanks for all your help, guys. I will post the results when i have it for future reference.

Haha, yeah. That sounds right. If I had a nickel for every time that I tried something completely ridiculous to fix a problem and had it work, I'd have a shit-ton of nickels. :hahaha:
One of the most ridiculous "fixes" was when my Windows Media Player suddenly refused to play any mp3's....it would give me an error message and that was that. After reinstalling (no help,) and a million other things, just for shits & giggles, I loaded up some flac files to piss it off. To my surprise, the flac files worked perfectly and when I tried the same mp3's as before, they worked. Ghosts in The Machine....
Glad you're up and running.

There's no person with experience with computers that hasn't resolved a problem with the apparently weirdest method.
It's a fact, lol . Even some of my suggestions were already "dumb"...

Well, after a couple of days of busy work, i spend some hour installing some software to my new PC, and guess what?! i found some new weird shit LOL...

In my new and improved and also clean PC, i'm having more CPU usage than in the old one. As I'm currently changing my PC, at the moment i have the old one and the new so i tested the same thing in both PCs.

    The old one:
    Windows 7 64 bit
    I7 2600
    8gb of RAM DDR3 1333 hz
    HDD Western Digital 1tb

    The new one:
    Windows 10 64 bit
    I7 7700
    32 gb of RAM DDR4 2400 hz
    SSD Western Digital 1tb

Both are using the same version on Live 10, with the same audio card, a USB Focusrite Scarlett 2i4

    Here's the thing:

I open a new project, the default one. Insert an Ableton instrument, a Wavetable pad preset, play one chord (D major) and the CPU Usage on the old one is at 16%

The same exact clean project, with the same preset, with the same stupid chord and the new PC goes to 26%....

How in the hell can this happen?!!?

To make things more absurd, my old PC is full of software and content, and libraries and stuff. That poor windows registry must be gigantic...

The new PC in Windows 10, only have one day since i've installed the OS, and only have Live installed, not even one plug in....

Can Windows 10 make my CPU goes higher? meaning, worst managing of the resources??

Please, let me know what you think, cos if this is true, i would have to go back to Windows 7.

    Thanks in advance!

There could be many reasons Windows 10 related. Microsoft built in AV (sec Essentials) and so on.
Does the high CPU usage only happens when you use Ableton/plugins?

How many physical cores does has the I7 7700? If it has 4 the 25% CPU usage is 100% one-core. Same problem I recently commented I've had with Waves plugins GUIs. In the thread "graphic cards matters".
I would advise to set your GPU settings to maximum performance (worst quality). I've found it to be the fastest way to know it it's GPU related or not.

    Good luck )

    @mcclaine
Hi. Check your graphics driver and Windows power settings settings. If you have an Nvidia card some configs are known to interfere. Set Windows power settings (in control panel) to full performance and never sleep. In standard settings Win 10 may underclock your cpu to save power when it deems it fit (and only God knows when Win10 decides this lol), so you maybe seeing a false value. I have a 7700k with 64gb on my main comp. Live 10 runs nicely, just not as good as Cubase or Sonar and Reaper is the winner in cpu load.
@Xupito Hey mate. The "worst quality" thingy refers to just 3D performance, unless you change the color bit depth too etc.

I know how it sounds, that's how it should be, and nearly always is. But during my recent "fight" with the GPU-eaters Waves plugins I discovered that it applies also to them. You can google the problem, is widely know.

But that's just bad coding by the Waves devs, and with an old GPU like my rusty 550 TI. Only god knows how the f* they code their GUIs.
Maybe 2D OpenGL calls wrapped in 3D ones that Windows "redirects" to DirectX with a refreshing rate of 44.1Khz?

I hadn't problems with other plugins. When testing, say the fancy Overloud Tapedesk with the tapes rolling, the difference is zero or marginal.
