imho anything that is out there has a reason,
Compressor could do something similar to limiter (but not exactly)

 

Not sure about the softube but there are deesser, that work with a voice/word recognition or better an s recognition and not only with frequencies. Try one of thoose, changed my thinking about deessers. cougHOFA cough...

Limiting is a type of compression- a limiter is a compressor. However not allcompressors are limiters. The primary deciding factor is that a very high ratio, typically 20:1 all the way to infinity:1, doesn't allow much of your signal past the threshold- which limits the signal to a certain peak level.
Simply limiter is a compressor with very high ratio,

if you are asking about omnipressor i have to say that i'd like the Eventide stuffs, imo they are really good and popular!

and about the Weiss Deess, i didn't tried it yet but here is a quotation in softube website:

GUIs are now much simpler, almost no 3D, no light reflections on panels/meters, smaller poteniometers/knobs/buttons, better visibility. GUIs are made simpler, close to Ignite Amps PTEQ-x, which is a free emulation of eqs combined in one unit + filters, tube stage modes, oversampling, etc. PTEQ is the best for free. Latest version was updated for better quality and new dsp engine

Yes, thankfully they're moving away from that stupid fish-eye look and reflections of someone's room that just impairs functionality, makes everything harder to see. That's great! But I won't comment much on the quality of their DSP... just that I hope they're making them sound even better...
