As a few times earlier there are some notes that is not played in key/tune or what you wanna call it. Its not a detune in the sound or something like that.. its the wrong note.. other than that and as most of the tracks you post i like your style and your ideas. You always choose good sounds, good arrangments for the genre etc so your on the right track.. starting at 40sec in the tones im talking about start to show up.. it aint always wrong the step outside the scale but as said it really bugs me that they are there. by chossing another key im pretty sure you can keep the vibe and feel for the track intact.. but hey,, its just my view ;)

Keep on doing what you doing..

nice! agree on the key problem of the melody though.

I dear to say you are on purpose moving on the edge, but, you haven't found the proper key/scales knowledge to achieve your exact precise goal.

sometimes one may like the dissonance of a theme but haven't figured out the right way to play it so it gives you both the wished dissonance and the melodically pleasing feeling all on purpose and not by random accident.

it can be done, its the base of the better and more interesting music pieces.

you need to read up on your theory because it looks you have a really nice ideas.

ps: maybe try to sing or whistle your melody? could help

Totally agree with both of you, above. In this track, I have purposely used G# in the middle of white keys just to create that dissonance (which i really like myself) in the melody parts. I do this more often than not in my works (most of the time on purpose based on my ear-feel:)). My theoretical knowledge is not great but I am putting an effort to improve, nevertheless

And huge thanks to both of you for giving it a listen and providing your valuable feedback:bow::like:

Nicely done.....I understand the discussion of this partic trak....the G# deff sounds misplayed n irrigates the otherwise
overall appeal of the melody.....Education is an ongoing process ...not an ungone given

You prolly should take out the dissonance or just use as grace note / slide? Tis ok (ish) in fast / passing arps etcs, but in "definite" lines it is pretty irksome. The track is fine otherwise!

Thanks for listening and your valuable feedback, Ma'am! Will sure work on the suggestions made here

Edit: Just updated the OP with the modified track (removed G# altogether from arps, melodies and synths)

Mam, not sir, just for the books.

Nothing to say against making 80s style music, but I just compared your sound to some 80s tracks on YT. Maybe you should do that, too.

agree with you No Avenger. its just that i assumed he/she is at the very beginning struggling with whats on the plate already, and even so completeting tracks even though with certain issues.

im just so glad to hear people who have a start middle and end and basic structure and a theme in mind, people who give it time and a bit of effort, its so easy to hear when someone is trying.

specially after the sad cases that we have had recent weeks uploading their random meaningless plinking crap and then feel like that gives them steam to go on a rampage questioning jazz, music theory etc etc... but sure, in general listening to good examples of the genre will def help. cheers :)

i think its well put together and the few notes that aren't 100% correct do not ruin it (imo), they sound on purpose, (almost) :winker:

agree saltwater, its a fine line and best when done methodically. its everyones choice to start making music how they want, myself I love dissonance and have had some works sent back asking for more straight forward sound.

if a beginner tries to go that route its going to be hard. I would always recommend people to make straight forward tunes, at least a 40,50 finalised lucky projects, then you will start knowing enough to go on the edges melodically. if you do it without without enough knowledge it can slow down your development.

Kindly accept my apologies @famouslut for my wrong addressing of you (thanks @No Avenger for correcting me).

Totally accept all the valuable feedback given above. Where I come from (Tamilnadu, India) the 80s music scene and sound (musical dissonance was the order of the day for most songs) were extremely different to how it was in western (or just anwhere outside Tamilnadu) parts of the world. I was highly inspired by a man named Ilaiyaraja(a musical genius of India) of that period. My musical attempts more often than not , are a resemblance of this than pure western style of 80s music (albeit at an amateurish way).

I am still learning to get a grip on this whole process, though (by trying to fuse some of the musical elements of global 80s scene with my native place's 80s music style).

    Cheers:wink:

Welcome to see your open to input.....Education is a lifelong progression.....Understandable the Region of the world one resides in
has distinct idiosyncrocies in their music.....Jus because you do things because you Like it or Can....doesnt neccessarily make it compositionally pleasing or right

    You are spot on, mate!:like:

Learning is a never ending process and I have been lucky to have got number of feedback (majority of them have been constructive and very useful) and guidance from so many (in this forum as well as in others where I am member of) in the last 2 years. I have started my attempts at making music only since june 2016 with no musical background, totally relying on what I have learned from watching youtube videos of various tutorials (just out of curiosity) and my ears (which is not the most reliable source, still).

I have no illusions and know that I have got a long way to go in this art to sound even half decent to be considered as an artist but that doesn't stop me from the joy of exploring this journey as I try to attempt in creating music that I like (however compositionally correct or wrong that is). If I, myself, don't like what I create then I should be quitting.

    Cheers:wink:
