Hi, I made a song and it sounds good with my monitor headphone, but it has booming issue when I listen to it with earphone on the smartphone. In this case, what is the best option?

    1. Low cut
    2. Down the bass level
    3. Something else

Earphones tend to have a 'smile' frequency response (i.e. boost in the low and hi ends) so that should be taken into account when mixing.

Instead of answering your question in a straightforward fashion, I'll ask: will your audience listen to your mix with monitor headphones or earphones? Adjust the mix according to the answer.

Hint: a low shelf curve sounds more musical than a low-cut... also, it will result in less phasing issues

Edit: looking at some of the other answers here, I have to ask: what kind of music is it? Could you post a link?

Agreed and 100Hz-110Hz can often be enough as the cut-off point, but that depends on the headphones ability to represent that frequency without digital distortion and other unwanted artifacts and boom too. Yours is probably the best all-round safe choice.

    1. check if other instruments, apart from bass and bd, have frequencies in that area and don't really need them. If yes, then lowcut those.
    2. do bass and bd both add the same amount to the boomy sound? If not, try bell eq to lower the one with the higher amount.
    3. you can subgroub bass and bd and use a dynamic bell eq for the boomy frequencies. So if only one one them plays you'll have a good amount of that frequency and if both are playing the dynamic eq wiil tame them.

balancing the spectrum with eq, and low cut, then add a brick wall limiter at default.
probably you did tweaking the output knob louder to pushing your headphone with full but without headphone amp so it was becomes too loud you cant noticed.
